These are zip files of cover images from books on the Internet Archive that are in 3 catagories; cloth bindings that are not very useful as a thumbnail of the book, cloth bindings that are useful as a thumbnail, and paper covers that are useful as thumbnails. These are here for anyone wanting to try to automatically catagorize these into useful and non-useful for use in the Internet Archive's book digitization program. Brewster Kahle’s short video for the occasion of the wake of Michio Tomita of Japan. Michio Tomita, with three other friends, began compiling five out-of-copyright Japanese books in text form in 1997, greatly inspired by Project Gutenberg as well as Voyager Company’s Expand Books. They named the library as Aozora Bunko, or “Blue Sky Library”, because they wanted the library to have an unlimited future. The volunteer group led by him now has several hundred editors, and compiles more...

Talk at the VI Global Baku Forum in Baku Azerbaijan, March 17, 2018. By Brewster Kahle. Introduced by Dr Serageldin. Notes for the presentation (not a transcript): Thank you Ismael, I come from the Internet. But this is not a separate land with separate rules. It is a technology, maybe like printing, that has changed so much on how we learn and interact. Maybe better said, the Internet and the World Wide Web is more like the Airplane-- it made the world smaller, but also needed...

Nina Paley and Theodore Gray have a robo-quilt making machine and makes quilts for you. This morning I ordered one and then they said it would take 4 hours and start in a couple of hours. They sent me email and I got to watch my quilt being sewn earlier today on a webcam they have mounted over the machine. This is that video taken as a screen movie. I also included still photo of the finished quilt on the machine. Fun. https://twitter.com/ninapaley/status/576496969704701952...
