The Commodore 64 is still one of the most amazing-sounding pieces of musical kit of the past 20 years. And, fresh from his acclaimed "Papaya EP" 7" on Bleep Street Records, which mixes up vocoders with divine SID riddims, Swedish wiz Goto80 shows us why the pure sound of the C64 is still king. "Monkeywarning", his debut release for Monotonik, is an 11 minute megamix of idm.tracks _purely_ composed on the Commodore 64 (no wimpy SIDStation action here), with only mixing...

When we were approached by US idm-er Pliant, who you may know as the label-boss of the superb videogame.elektronik.otaku peeps, Systorm Technologies, and the mastermind behind the experimental idm-ish video label, Frogbomb, and he said he had an entire album available for release on Monotonik.. well, needless to say, we jumped at the chance. We're very proud to present the first release on Monotonik from Secede , a Dutch-based artist who's just starting to get a lot of buzz online, with a remix featured on the hotly anticipated Machine Drum remix CD due out on Merck pretty soon, plus a full length solo CD (also on Merck ) to follow. So, this 4-track EP is a perfect introduction to the lush, melodic and intelligent sound of Secede, with the first track, "Depart & Arrive", cutting up a gorgeous ambient waltz with the...

Part two of this series shows my love and heart break of 2002. Being the sister to the first EP. Its sound is rather similar, except with a cleaner electronic sound. Created with the sounds of a melo-sonic and yet even more toy keyboards. Sexual references remain the focal point.

Part one of this two part series shows me flex my muscles as a lo-fi, sex god, rock star. Unlike all of my earlier multitracked work, this was mostly sequenced with a pc and a commodore128. Sounds ripped from a talking wrist watch, my house doorbell, a mac lc and many toy keyboards such as the casio vl-tone in "one vanquished leopard."

This piece of trickjazztical funknology comes at you outta Staten Island.. uhh.. Sweden, and monkeys around with your peridontal atrium in a wondrous, Squarepusher meets Ninja Tune style. Gotta love that that cut-up style courtesy of Sushi Brother, who's aka Balrog of m211-affiliated furry animals, TPOLM. See, Spot, see the scratching, see the oldskool samples, see the twisty synth riffs and brass hits, run, Spot, be very fearful indeed..

From the weirdly melodic but skewed Swede, Sushi Brother, comes this piece of jaunty, twisty, jazzfunkbreak-ish music thats almost completely uncategorisable.. If you start to mention Squarepusher meeting the fellow Swedes from the Dot label in an underpass somewhere, maybe.. well maybe thats a laughable comparison :) But its the only one weve got, so check out the feisty, squirmy lead and the spaz-out interludes and nod in disagreement..

A roughly chronological collection ranging from some of my earliest gameboy tunes to the ones written in 2002. this c o [dub], astonishes us, as if a deep, melancholic melody slowly grows up from the very depths of our hearts, and once in our head, we can't do anything but let it take us to the heavens.

In these recorded comments by Slonimsky, his musical world (classical/avant garde) and that of Frank Zappa (popular/avant garde) came together primarily due to the publication of a book by Slonimsky on scales and harmonies that attracted Zappas attention. Slonimsky recounts his acceptance of an invitation by Zappa to play with his Rock Band. He also recounts how amazed he was when he observed Zappas scores for classical music which looked far out like something Edgar Varese would write, a...

Four tracks from UK-based downtempo wizard Idmonster, making here his No Type debut. All of them share the property of having a title beginning with the word "The". And also, they're all quite lush & pretty.

An EP that puts a whole new light to the term "Gangsta rap", as the protagonists in this hip-hop trio are eminent members of well known group of cartoon villains. This is the precursor to their follow-up CD, out on Cobra records.

From spain, comes an 8 track ep from a new artist simply self-entitled m__ that has recently debuted himself on the netlabels world with a rather short but highly enjoyable release on entity records. This marks the return of enoughrecords to the experimenal dark ambient realms with a fairly excellent and soothing album. It's dark. It's clicky. It's mysterious. It's abstract. It's volatile. And it's great.

Taajuus, our new artist hailing from Nokia in Finland brings us two trance-flavoured drum'n'bass tracks with rough breaks and big basslines. Desire is more breakbeat oriented track with melancholic pads and trancy melodies which collide with heavily chopped breakbeats and hard bassline. It's easy to hear that one of the Taajuus' biggest influences in drum'n'bass is Technical Itch. Infection is more fastpaced than it's a-side, and maybe a bit more suitable to the dancefloor, but it also moves...

So, we continue with the Mono211 sublabel tradition of releasing 'good, but unclassifiable' material that takes both breaks and chillout influences on-board. And this time, we were delighted to get "Aze", an unexpected submission from the mysterious Izmar , and a whole album of delightfully groovy, beautifully programmed jazzy techno/chillout. Right from the slow build of "Aze-01", it's clear that there's something different going on here, with possible comparisons to the...

The second mtk.release (third release over both mtk and m211!) for UK-based Pendle, aka Idmonster, and his output seems to just keep getting better. After his previous Idmonster track we put out, 'The Force May Be With You', attracted attention from the verycool Neo-Ouija (Lee Metamatics/Norken's label!), we're pleased to note that track'll be on the "Cottage Industries 2" compilation with Funckarma, Novel23, EU and more, wheeee. Anyhow, "My Human Side" is Idmonster's new...

Much more of a 'fun' release than anything else, this great piece of electro from Helsinki guys Prob+Mirko was meant to compete in the mp3 competition at Assembly 99, the hackerdemo party held a couple of weeks back. But in the end it was encoded at the wrong rate and got disqualified, so we get the benefit of the damn catchy vocoded lyrics and oldskool robotikvoices (yes, it's all their own work, not samples..) for the first time on m211. 'We are here to make you move, so come on people - rock...

This is something for all you crazy IDM/xperimental lovers, which you can't _absolutely_ miss. Minez from Japan makes us feel really proud of being an electro-netlabel, by releasing this little piece of art of undistinguishable beauty; sweet, smiley melodies flying in an anime scene accompanied by crazy beats+snares, and hi-freq hihats and tempo-tickers make all the landscape toss and twirl in a fairy azure sky. Childish chords against mature retrigs make this track sweeter to caresse -and we...

melting hexa's usual intelligent, minimal melodies with the virtuoso's weird bbeats and kickies, make this release something you cannot lose. originally meant for the upcoming iro EP by purusha, these guys finally decided to release it as a single piece of tactical electronica, and we can't help but be happy for this.

Elaborating on the Textone theme of reintroducing respected artists with new material after an extended absence, we welcome Mikael Stavöstrand to our family. Under his own name and the moniker "Vita", Mikael has previously released two acclaimed albums on Force Inc., as well as a series of 12"s on other outlets. That not much was heard of this artist recently does not mean that he spent his time idle. Countless hours of studio tinkering resulted in a new trademark sound that...

You have just discovered a rare comedy album. In this collection, almost each segment has a few constants: The characters are all chickens; an instructor, Mrs. Grossman (voiced by a man) is teaching a subject to a class; a cat (the chickens' mortal enemy) will be killed as part of the lesson; Monty, a student, will point out that Mrs. Grossman is doing something dangerous; the bit will end with an enormous explosion... Check out more information about this album on it's Comfort Stand release...
