The wanted outlaw Tom Mitchell (Johnny Mack Brown) has put away his guns and now works in Root's store. When Sheriff Lance (Earle Hodgins) is killed, Martha Lance (Mary MacLaren) gets Tom to take the job. He straps the guns on again but Brownlee (Steve Clark) arrives and reveals him to be a wanted man.

Johnny Mack Brown Has Reputation and Villain Troubles
Johnny Mack Brown )Tom Mitchell) is in a town where no one knows his outlaw past and so he's put away his guns and works in a general store. But troubles brewing as the small ranchers are having problems with the large ranchers. Who's behind it - why it Warner Richmond (Kane Briscoe), the slimey rich guy - and he looks it. Backing him up are the ever menacing baddies Dick Curtis (Lefty Drogan) and nasty traitor Charles King (Bert Moscript). Iris Meredith Beth Graham) is the love interest. The plot and script are a bit above average due to a few nifty turns. There is little gun play, a few fist fights - why take control by drawing your gun, when you can take up time and smash up the set with a fight - true heroes don't take control, they pummel their opponent into submission. And, there is a bit too much riding back and forth - but, that;s typical of these "B" westerns. And, for a change Brown gets to look serious and brooding and finally happy when he gets the girl.

A Good Johnny Mack Brown Movie
This was an entertaining western movie from 1937 starring Johnny Mack Brown. The gunfights are few, riding horses and chasing others on horses is the norm. There is even romance. The plot is acceptable. I rated it high based on the year and compared to the typical western movies of 1930's and into the 1940's

Old fashioned shootem up bang bang
Good old Sheriff Tom get the girl.. Well who would have ever seen THAT coming? I think I could count on one, maybe two fingers the movies where the good guy doesn't get the girl so I guess that begs the question why don't the bad guys ever get the girls in the end? Good guys are out of fashion these days.
Just once I'd like to see the bad guy dragging the good pretty girl off then the bad hussy getting drunk with the good guy in a brothel and the words, THE END! Oh wait..they do that now days, don't they? So much for apple pie and mom and all that stuff..
