The McAllen Public Library invites book readers, foodies and the rest of the community to visit its new in-house restaurant The Black Iron Café.
Black Iron Café is an original creation of Valley natives Sergio Garcia, Anthony Alaniz, and Ronnie Cavazos, based on the imagery and iconography of McAllen’s historic 23rd Street rail system. The tables and serving bar are crafted from reclaimed wood, while the walls are lined with power outlets and modern fixtures.
The McAllen Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening .
The café will serve sandwiches, wraps, coffee, tea, snacks, and a rotating assortment of daily specials to hungry patrons. Some menu samples – on a limited basis – will be served free to the public. The menu will offer healthy food options, such as teas and juices, and low-fat, high-protein lunch orders. Every order comes in low-waste packaging.
