Vice President George H.W. Bush discusses his World War II Navy career with press secretary Marlin Fitzwater. President Bush flew fifty-eight combat missions in the Pacific theater as a Naval torpedo bomber pilot, was shot down and rescued by a submarine in 1944, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross.
