The project was conducted to determine Air Traffic Controllers acceptance of an intermediate activity level airport traffic control tower, proposed for construction on a national basis, and to obtain suggestions for improving the proposed facility. Full-scale mockups of the tower cab and associated junction room were constructed and equipped with operational equipment at the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center, Atlantic City, New Jersey. A 2-week evaluation was conducted with participation by air traffic control specialists from each of the 11 Federal Aviation Administration's regions. Results indicate that the proposed tower would be highly acceptable from an operational, as well as an environmental standpoint.
