Because an accredited tumor registry program contributes positively to the level of patient care delivered within Army hospitals, the Army Medical Department has support the accreditation of its tumor registries by the American College of Surgeons. While accreditation is desirable, the accreditation requirement of a 90 percent follow-up rate is difficult for Army Healthcare Facilities because of the mobility of the beneficiary population. While the American College of Surgeons is sympathetic to the Army's unique situation, it is not willing to grant an exception to the standards. Thus, this study attempted to develop a protocol which would exceed the College of Surgeons 90 Percent follow-up rate.
