In this issue, Dr. Garrison Walters, executive director of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, observes that a better job must be done in making others across the country more aware that South Carolina has an outstanding system of higher education. Despite its considerable strengths in higher education, the state has to do better--and quickly. The state needs a strong Action Plan for higher education. Finally, the higher education community will need to redouble its efforts to speak in a unified voice on higher education priorities and how they connect to the needs of the state. Other items in this issue include: (1) CHE News of Note; (2) News from PASCAL (Partnership Among South Carolina's Academic Libraries); (3) December Kickoff of the South Carolina Course Alignment Project; (4) Centers of Economic Excellence (CoEE); and (5) Higher Education Quick Facts (recent data published by the Southern Regional Education Board).
