The main reason for the claims of racism with Amos & Andy is because black characters were portrayed by white actors. Sanford & Sons had black actors playing black characters.
To get a better idea how much of America viewed racism, keep in mind that this show ran for about 20-30 years before there was enough outcry about racism to get the program removed and I think that was the TV version where black actors were portraying black characters, but, was still largely written and produced by white people.
That being said, Amos & Andy, if you can get past the blackface characterizations and stereotypes, many of the programs were funny and Amos became a earnest, hard working, generous person who was very kind and a loving family man.

Isn't it an interesting irony that the same people who are so quick to complain about the "racism" in the "Amos & Andy"radio shows don't say a thing about the "Sanford and Son" television shows that are STILL being broadcast today.
