For Ken Maynard Fans
Early western talkie with Ken Maynard, who IMO talks like an early version of "Gomer Pyle," and, with his "aw shucks" manner, hasn't got a lot more sense. In this film he seems to always be at the wrong place at the wrong time and spends the entire film clearing his reputation while running down the bad guys. The script does its best to include a lot of clever things done by Tarzan, Maynard's horse. William L. Thorne has the twisted evil grin of a crook and Charles King does his best in his usual role as henchman. Willowy beauty Jeanette Loff is the love interest and Carmelita Geraghty is a bonus attraction as King's helpful lady friend. The movie gets padded out with a lot of riding back and forth. The sound is choppy and often out of sync with the picture and IMDB says it is 61 minutes, but we only have 58 minutes here. Should be 2 stars, but I'll give it 3 stars for effort.
