Hillsborough County officials kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month today with a special tribute to county employees impacted by the disease.
The park outside the courthouse was decked in pink, as survivors and supporters walked through the park to raise awareness.
County commissioner Sandy Murman also spoke to attendees about the importance of early detection.
One county employee who is also a breast cancer survivor tells us early detection and her female intuition is what saved her life.
“I went to my doctor and I said, ‘I suspect that I have something,’ and she told me, ‘Nah, I don’t think you have anything.’ A year later I had a tumor the size of a lime and I was borderline stage three breast cancer. I’m really glad I listened to that little voice, that told me go back to the doctor. Go back and get that exam done,” said Liza Testa.
There will be a number of Breast Cancer Awareness Month events throughout October, including a walk at the Raymond James Stadium on October. The Official Hillsborough County, Florida Government YouTube channel is powered by Hillsborough Television (HTV), find more of our programming at these outlets:
