(steve) the study includes more than just áprofessional football players' brains, too. kron four's spencer blake spoke with a local sports medicine specialist to better understand the gravity of this latest information. (nats: whistle)if you or someone you love plays footballthen you should hear the latest research about chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or c-t-e. researchers looked at the donated brains of 202 former football players - more than half of them played in the n-f-l, and others only had high school or college football careers.177 of them had c-t-e, including all but áone of the n-f-l players in the study."that's a scary number at the nfl level." doctor david goltz, a sports medicine specialist who treats many athletes who have concussionssays the study is definitely concerning."i wouldn't say that it's highly reassuring that american football is safe for preventing brain injury."but he also says there's a lot left unanswered.for example, this study doesn't include football players who ádidn't have c-t-e symptoms during life, nor does it include athletes from different sports. but goltz still sees the
alarming report as a springboard for further research."how many concussions are too many? and this study certainly doesn't answer that question and that's a big one, i think, for parents." certified athletic trainer kit holsten gets asked about c-t-e from high schoolers' parents a lot.she wonders if players today have a bit more protection from head trauma than those who were included in the study."the brains that they did study played high school football back in the 50s, 60s, 70s; they didn't really have helmets like we do now."holsten says one positive from the report is that the more we know about c-t-e, the better trainers and doctors can make diagnosis and treatment plans.and if your kid is áalready playing a sport that's prone to cause head injuries "the one thing that's under your control is reporting symptoms when you have a concussion. so be aware of the symptoms of concussion, and don't try to tough it out and hide those symptoms."in marin county, spencer blake, kron four news. agent: "you are being detained, ma'am."parmely said she refused to answer in show of solidarity with some of her friends who claim they or their children have been aggressively interrogated by border patrol agents."it's horrifying to hear what has happened to my friends' kids who are just brown," she said. in a statement, a spokesman for the border patrol said:border patrol checkpoints are critical tool for the enforcement of our nation's immigration laws. at a border patrol checkpoint, an agent may question a vehicle's occupants about their citizenship, place of birth, and request document proof of immigration status, how legal status was obtained and make quick observations of what is in plain view in the interior of the vehicle. during the course of the immigration inspection, if an occupant refuse to answer an agent's questions, the agent may detain the driver for a reasonable amount of time until he or she can make a determination regarding the occupant's immigration status. it is agency policy that all individuals with whom we interact are treated with dignity and respect.parmely said that she and her family were detained for approximately 90 minutes before she was ultimately released.she did not answer the agent's question.
