( james ) the chief says he

is releasing the video now -- in an effort to be transparent. the gonsalez family intends to file a civil lawsuit against the officers- involved and the city of hayward...claiming unreasonable use of force. the officers who opened fire are back on regular patrol. ( darya ) a 30-thousand dollar reward is being offered in a year-old homicide investigation. patrick scott junior was waiting at an oakland bus stop to go to his grandmother's house when he was approached by a gunman and shot several times. patrick's mom describes the 27 year old as a gentle giant who stayed out of trouble. the f-b-i and oakland police are offering the reward. scott junior was killed one year ago sunday. in this morning's hidden history: lessons from the grave. a mans life and death is providing a very personal look at what is was like to live as a slave in america.. scott mcdonnell....brings us the story of "fortune" in a waterbury, connecticut cemetery - - a gravestone
9:34 am
with a short but peculiar inscription - "the man fortune. died 1798. buried september 13, 2013."it's the kind of headstone that leaves every visitor wondering.... "what" is the "story" behind this?its the tale of a man....owned as a slave.......and his bones.... 28:57:13 mr. fortune the skeleton that we were looking at, was owned by this surgeon in waterbury - he was probably working on his land...he had a family with him...they were all owned as well by that family.right in front of anthropologists and students from quinnipiac university - an unsettling truth........ slavery - didn't just happen in the south.far from it.28:00 i think a lot of people don't realize how prevalent - slavery was in the northeast. studying the bones of fortune.. 35:04 he was extremely robust....he had very strong muscle markings...now provides
9:35 am
"rare" insight into what life was like as a new england slave...11:37:47 i think this is the only example of a slave in new england that was examined. what was this individual's life like?from the data collected....11:27:49 your history is in the bones...this is a cross section of his life"from lifestyle....to diet.......... 11:27:34 this feathering along the edge of the skull could be due to nutritional deficiencies as it happensthe man who owned fortune was dr. preserved porter of waterburya doctor.11:28:53 " well preserved porter was a bone doctor."and it seems... fortune was used in life.... and in death....11:42:11 the story goes, after fortune dies...preserved porter skeletonized him.a skeleton used by the family to study osteology11:42:04 the bones were passed down from generation to generation, ironically.......in new england the ground is so moist...if the bones remained buried - there would be little left.the disrespect of keeping fortunes bones on display... now allowed the world to hear his story ....and give him the respect he deserved...33:15 it
9:36 am
is a strange juxtaposition to know the very reason he was used by the bone surgeon is also what ended up giving us evidence of what his life was like......a ceremony was held at the state capital .... 11:36:38 - that's why we participated in the process of the burial funeral ..which was amazingand fortunes bones were put into a coffin.... so.........after two hundred years.a proper grave.....and through it all....forcing us all to look at a disturbing past34:22 so that we know what kind of consequence there are...to some of these decisions and ways that we treat each other.and hopefully....thanks to fortune...learning an invaluable lesson34:31 knowing your history...means that you can change your future...for hidden history, i'm scott mcdonnell.

9:49 am
scoring superbowl in history. if you stopped watching cuz you had something better to do... like organize your sock drawer.. the patriots beat the rams 13 -3. let's look at the highlight.. ( darya )this was the highlight of this was the ( darya ) this was the highlight of the game.. the commercial showing how exciting the nfl is.. this is the game i wanted to see! with marshawn lynch and richard sherman... with all
9:50 am
the nfl greats.. peyton manning throwing bombs..obj going long.. chairs flying and tables breaking.. but we now interrupt this commercial break.. to bring you back to the boring reality: first quarter nothin. second quarter: three-nothin. third quarter 3-3..somebody make it stop! and finally the patriots did: with 7 minutes left in the game, they scored the one and only touchdown. i know if you are a lover of the game.. it was a brilliant defensive display... a coaching masterpiece.. but even the winners know it was a dud.. julian edleman sounds almost apologetic: easy for you today julian.. you got mvp and tommy got his 6th ring. i will never get back those 3 and half hours. even the halftime show was uninspired. maroon 5 playing snippets of songs from 17 years ago.. even when adam
9:51 am
levine took his shirt off, i didn't perk up. the most exciting moment was when big boi rolled up on the field in a classic cadillac.. and i thought about how many fans would love to head for the parking lot. take me away big-boy! for the first time, i was happy to be the only grown up who has to go to bed at 7:30.. cuz i knew i wasn't missing anything good.( darya )we may also be getting closer to the end of another wake me up when it's over situation: where the raiders will play until their vegas digs are done. it's looking more and more like it's going to be the park formerly known as att (oracle now)which means the san francisco giants would have to share their field.. because it worked so well for the a's when the raiders would tear it up at the coleseum. wake me up when that nightmare's over. ( darya )the only team worth staying up late to watch is the warriors.. they played the lakers sans lebron saturday night.. guess his groin wasn't as good as he thought..
9:52 am
but golden state sure was! the warriors beat l-a thanks to steph curry's 4th quarter rally. whatever ailed klay thompson was gone he poured in 28 points.. boogie chipped in 18 including a massive hammer dunk. k-d added 21. and the warriors have a thrilling comeback victory 115-101. now that's entertainment! and that's the buzz. we'll see you tomorrow
