shotááá) back to our breaking news. thousands of teachers in oakland have started striking this morning. ( james ) teachers are asking for a pay raise and smaller class sizes. kron 4's will tran is standing by live in front of manzanita community school in oakland. will? the strike officially kicks off at 630 this morning 3000 oakland trenchers will not be at work which will impact 37 thousand studentsthe teachers have been working fora year

and a half without a contract. they're looking for a 12 percent pay raise but the oakland unified school district says it can only afford a 5 pernt increase for the teachersthe difference is in the millions of dollars teachers will hit the picket lines at most... if not all the schools in oaklandthe two sides tried to avoid the strike by negotiating yesterday but they could not reach a deal. they'll be negotiating again tomorrow

with kron 4's maureen kelly.( darya ) she is live at redwood heights elementary school where teachers are also picketing. maureen. ( maureen ) at redwood heights elementary school in oakland ... parents are upset about the strike. many parents say their kids will be learning at home, or with other students at their local rec center until their teachers get what they say they deserve. parents also made sure that their kids are aware of what is at stake for their teachers. because the strike is indefinite ... teachers unsure of when they'll step back inside their classrooms.

its important to stress that all oakland unified schools will be open and district leaders expect students to attend class. but students showing up to school will likely see their teachers outside... carrying picket signs. inside ... the district is saying students will be taught by principals, office staff and temporary emergency teachers. schools still will be offering lunch. and all state and federally funded after-school programs will be open. but for parents who don't feel comfortable with having their kids cross the picket line ... there are alternatives. the teacher's union has partnered up with the oakland parks department... to help occupy children. and at least one oakland church is stepping up.... taylor memorial united methodist church says they can take in up t0 250 students for the duration of the strike. here is a list of the rec centers that will be open to students from eight a-m to three p-m monday through

friday. after three p-m the parks department will resume its normal schedule ... with the teacher's union helping out as necessary. also all of the city's public libraries will be open to students during their normal business hours ... but library staff can not supervise students, so parents or caregivers need to come with kids aged seven and younger. ( darya ) in the east bay ... a second threat has been found at martinez junior high school. but police and school officials say it is not credible and that classes will continue as scheduled today. this time the threat was written on wall of the girls

restroom. on tuesday ... police arrested a boy at the school for writing a threat in the boys bathroom. police also determined that threat was not credible. while police and school officials investigate ... they stress that the school is safe for students to attend classes today. ( james ) the f-b-i has exposed a plot to kill high ranking democrats including house speaker nancy pelosi and senate minority leader chuck schumer. investigators say the plot was hatched by a u-s coast guard lieutenant who was a former marine. federal prosecutors say... 49-year-old christopher paul hasson was planning several domestic terror-attacks. they say he had a hit-list that included high profile journalists from cnn and msnbc... and several prominent democrats including senators kamala harris and cory booker. in their search of hasson's home in maryland... officers found a stockpile of weapons including fifteen guns

and more than a-thousand rounds of ammunition. investigators also found numerous drugs they believe he was planning to take before launching his attacks. hasson is a self described white nationalist who wrote in his manifesto that he wanted to establish a "white homeland." prosecutors say he was planning to, quote: "murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country." we'll learn more today when hasson appears in court for the ( darya ) still ahead on the kron4 morning news... new body cam video of an officer involved shooting. a look at what it reveals about the case. ( darya ) we are learning new details about the case against jussie smollett. the 'empire' star was booked into chicago earlier this morning.. he facing felony charges of disorderly conduct. smollett is accused of filing a false report, claiming he was the victim of a hate crime. three weeks ago smollett told authorities two men attacked him in downtown chicago.he said they put a rope around his neck and poured a chemical substance on him while shouting racist and homophobic slurs. during

today's news conference --- police said they did have the 35-hundred dollar check that smollett paid to the two men for the attack. detectives are presenting evidence before a cook county grand jury. investigators say he used the incident --- to try and further his career.

back in november-- he agreed to a two year suspension with one year unpaid and the other partially paid. u-c berkeley says an investigation found that over two years he sexually harassed the student. they say the professor denies and continues to deny the allegations. ( james ) in the north bay ... shocking new police bodycam video shows the moments a man pulls a gun on a napa county sheriff's deputy. the deputy fatally shoots the man when she returns fire. kron4's justine waldman has the latest on the investigation. nats can i look around to make surewhat started as a check on a car parked on rural.. henry road sunday night (11pm) quickly escalated.deupty riley jarecki wanted to speak with the driver of a red honda - he is now iden as 43 year old javier hernandez morales of napa. but the sheriff tells me he was likely living in his car at the time, because he was not welcome at home.about 6 minutes in to encounter... the suspect rolls down his window when asked, then..nats the suspect fires at least twice at very close range. while running around the car

to the passenger deputy jarekci radios in...and fires 15 shots.sot bodycam video graphic, brutal and sudden. undersheriff jon crawdford explained the bullets just missed hitting the deputy. sot it is clear to us that he intended to kill herthere are active waants for the suspect, who has a record... which includes charges of a conceled loaded fire arm, assualt on police officer and dui. he also had two guns on him according to the sheriffs office - one was stolen out of fremont. sheriff john robertson tells me... the deputy handled the situaton correctly. sheriff sot she demonstarted that you dont give up she fought and in the end she wonjustinethe deputy involved is on paid leave during the investigation. and doing well, we are told, considering the circumstances. the only reason the undersheriff believes the reasons he was not shot is because of divine intervention. in napa justine waldman kron 4 news.

( james ) in the east bay... policin fremont are stepping up their efforts ... after hundreds of auto- burglaries were reported over the past six weeks. the police recently arresting eleven auto burglary suspects allegedly connected to five incidents over an eight day period. many of these burglaries happening at night in the parking lots of retail shopping centers along the i-880 corridor. and now officers say stolen licence plates are being used on cars to try and throw off police. looked malnourished. without the mom to teach them how to hunt and survive in the wild ... the animals cant survive on their own and cant be released. zoo officials believe a loss of the animal's natural habitat may have been a factor in them roaming the streets of half moon bay.
