i'm francis rivera. >> i'm ayman mohyeldin. hurricane matthew at this hour pounding haiti with relentless rain and wind. matthew, the most powerful atlantic hurricane in nearly a decade grows in strength. the storm now packing 145-mile-per-hour winds as haitian officials and international authorities bracing for a potential humanitarian disaster. thousands of coastal res dnltsz homes. many still struggling to recover from a devastating earthquake six years ago. now, with up to 40 inches of rain, they face flash flooding. >> at least three people have been killed in the storm, now as the storm moves north, the central bahamas and cuba are bracing for a major blow. the governors of florida and north carolina are taking zero chances, declaring a state of

once again the major headline overnight, the forecast path of hurricane matthew closer to the u.s. southeast coast. it's going to parallel the florida coastline. that's the tough forecast. then raking the coastline of the carolinas, especially south carolina and north carolina, as we g sunday. it looks like the first significant impact as far as the winds won't arrive until thursday night. the rainfall, if the path does play out as projected, will play out into rain in the carolinas. a lot of problems in the days ahead. >> millions of people on the woes coast are waking up to an ominous warning from seismologists. the possibility of a major earthquake. >> scientists say hundreds of recent small quakes threaten to awaken the sleeping san andreas falls and it could be a
