12:30 pm
we have the latest coming into our newsroom today. our craig fiegener is all over this story. >> jeff: recognizing domestic violence awareness month. how we can all get involved with safe nest and help those in need throughout the month of october and all year long >> announcer: news 3 starts right now. >> krystal: thank you so much for being with us. we're just a little more than two weeks away from election -- it's already here. early voting already underway here. donald trump's daughter lara trump is kicking off her women's empowerment tour today. >> jeff: she joins us live from new york city with what it's all about. lara thank you for joining us. and, wow, the countdown is on until election day. our new poll just came out showing donald trump is down about 12 points from hillary clinton. do you think there's enough time on your behalf and anyone else with his campaign to key in on that crucial demographic before election day?
12:31 pm
look, i think we've all heard a lot about polls lately. but what i'll say is you really can't dispute the enthusiasm across this country for donald trump and the movement that has formed behind him. you still have tens of thousands of people showing up, sometimes three times a day to these rallys that he holding across the country. so i don't think the polls are totally accurate whenever it's reflecting the enthusiasm. i think the voter turnout we're going see for donald trump. so >> krystal: let's talk about that crucial demographic, women. in fact you are kicking off this women empowerment tour. what is this all about? >> well actually we've been doing it for awhile. it's a group of women and i who know donald trump personally. we know the man he is. and we kept hearing a narrative about donald trump out there in the media and it wasn't the donald trump that we knew. we didn't agree with it. we said you know what we need to go out on the road and talk to people and let them know the man
12:32 pm
month and a half, two months now we've been able to tour around the country together and have been very fortunate to meet so many people, enthusiastic voters. people that want to learn more about donald trump. i think the message is really resonating with them. >> jeff: lara, how do you sway those women voters who are already convinced that donald trump has lost their vote simply based on comments that he has made in previous speeches and most notably what has surfaced in that hot mic issue >> well i would just encourage voters, men and women alike, to look at what donald trump wants to do for this country. he wants to keep our country safe. he wants to bring jobs back to this country. he wants to put our education first. he wants to put this country and americans first. he also rolled out a very progressive plan for women and child care that we've never seen on either side of the aisle. and, you know, aside from what donald trump is going to do for
12:33 pm
encourage people to look at what we see coming out in these wikileaks emails every day with hillary clinton. this is one of the most corrupt candidates we've ever had run for office. and, you know, as a woman i would love to see a woman be president one day, but we can do so much better than hillary clinton. >> krystal: that will be up for the voters to make their voices heard and decide. lara trump we appreciate you for spending the time talking with us today. >> jeff: all right. staying on the topic of politics. president baument made a stop in the valley over the weekend. hillary clinton on sunday, he also campaigned for former state attorney general catherine cortez-masto. masto of course is in a tough race in her own right. and the president was here advocating on her behalf and especially laying some criticism down for congressman joe heck. for democrats, this is an important race because the seat that's being vacated would be from harry reid who is retiring.

support that we can ahead of election day. speaking of which, it is a new record set turnout for voting here in southern nevada. more than 39,000 people cast their ballot on the first day of early voting. that bests the previous record by more than 7,000. then, get this, on sunday another 30,000 castsbilities. so in clark county, nearly 70,000 have voted in this general election. early voting continues until to know about where and when on our website. that's news3lv.com. keep it here on news 3 for complete coverage of decision 2016. all the way up until election day. you can also follow our coverage on news3lv.com or on our facebook page. news 3 is your weather authority. kelly curran has been very busy. the question is: is the rain going to continue and are we going to get anymore today? >> kelly: we are still looking at rain showers coming down in the las vegas valley and more is
12:35 pm
yes. so here's a look at what we're seeing right now in las vegas. and the heaviest of the showers are exiting the valley right now to the north and east. that's what direction that the showers are heading. out toward lake las vegas, that's where we're see something of the heaviest showers now. other than that the northern half of our valley is seeing quite a bit of activity. we've got another batch of showers moving in from the west and mount charleston seeing a little bit more activity. a little bit of mixed precipitation. maybe even a little bit of snow at or indian springs seeing heavier precipitation. again, areas indicated in the shades of yellow and orange. that's the heavier precipitation. could see thunderstorm action inside of those cells as well. a little bit of thunder and lightning. zooming out the bigger picture. here it is. making its way to the north and east. yes, more shower activity expected through about three or 4:00 this afternoon. then the clouds will start decreasing and winds start dying down. i'll let you know what to expect
12:36 pm
we are doing our part to raise awareness about a very important issue. we're talking about domestic violence. and october is the month in which we work hard to try to raise awareness what we should do all year long. to talk more that is hanna from safe nest. we always have to see you. and obviously this is something that we struggled with for quite sometime in nevada. unfortunately sometimes we've ranked among the top cities when it comes to domestic violence related de. in 2015, we moved up to number three for domestic violence homicides in the united states. so it's obviously an issue that we have in the community and we need to just talk more about it. >> krystal: talking about it, right? and just letting people know that it is okay to talk about it. and it is okay to reach out for help. that's where you all come in. >> right. and our new phrase is if you see something, say something. pick up the phone. don't be embarrassed to call
12:37 pm
life. we keep hearing over and over in the dv homicides that we've had just this year alone that neighbors and co-workers, i wish i would have called. i wish i would have talked to someone. and been able to help more. >> krystal: what are you seeing -- you know there could ab lot of challenges and obstacles to a woman or even a man maybe involved in domestic violence situation being ready to step forward or feeling like they can step forward. what are some of those challenges or obst preventing them from taking that step. >> some of the challenges are pride, embarrassment. just, you know, you think about those. the can be financial issues. the person might not be working. so they may not have a means of money. so there's lots of things. lots of little things that maybe the rest of us take for granted. if you are looking to leave a relationship it might be very important. >> krystal: let's talk about a partnership you have with a lot of organizations and businesses that are helping you, you know,
12:38 pm
>> for the month of october, domestic violence awareness month, they have created a drink called the cosmic green. it's really purple in color. ten percent of those proceeds come to safe nest. >> krystal: is this the location at sunset and 215? >> that's correct. >> krystal: so go support them. this goes to really supporting some vital services for, you know, victims at a time when they really, really need it. for many it could be a difference between life and de considering the fact that we've seen our position in this unfortunate situation rise when it comes to cities impacted by this. >> i'll tell you just in 2014 we had 66. in 2015 we went up to 32. >> krystal: we're going to work hard so that we don't continue to see the numbers like that right? hanna, we appreciate the work people like you and all the folks at safe nest are doing. and wear purple right. >> yes. >> krystal: to support the cause. show your support.

a lot of lightning with these as well. most of these are going to stay south of mesquite. mesquite has been in on some of that rainfall and thunderstorms already this morning as well. so as we continue to watch those showers track their way off to the north and east we're going to look at this. mount charleston lodge time-lapse from this morning. we've had wave after wave of rainfall move through. some heavy at times. rainfall totals in mount charleston. we're looking at over an inch. close to two or above 10,000 feet there this morning. current temperatures. mount charleston it's 44. our station there. boulder city coming in at 67. and pahrump 65 where they've had about three quarters inch of rain almost now. north las vegas 67. 66 in ind gran springs. these temperatures have not budged from where they were this morning. to be honest i think we're going struggle to hit some highs today. pahrump 73. boulder city 77. mount charleston 52.
12:45 pm
back down. looking at 52 indian springs. pahrump 49. boulder city 61 for the low temperature. our 7-day forecast? temperatures will continue to the 80s for the middle of the week. normal for this date is 77 degrees. 86 in fact by thursday. but friday that is the day we're going to observe nevada day. it's obviously the 31st on halloween but we get the friday offer off. or at least the kids do anyway. another chance for showers kelly. we need to keep our umbrellas out. time for trending. everybody's been talking about this.
