reyes from dignity health st. rose. you have how many daughters? >> four daughters. >> michelle: you also help deliver babies at the hospital. >> i work for the labor and delivery unit. >> michelle: you know what's up. let's talk about this class. first of all i was surprised to learn it's actually filling up. >> yes. it's filling up. they're offered every month. there is always an opportunity to have your soon to be dad hit a class either in december, january, it's always available. whatever time you are due there's usually a class available. >> michelle: this is different than the birthing class. >> it's just for dads. no moms. >> michelle: what do you cover? >> i talk to them about what to expect from the time they walk in to going home. diagram swaddling. what to expect during the changes of that period of labor. after postpartum blues some of that starts to hit moms.
if they see it's extending a little longer. >> michelle: i think that's so important. because i think one of the hardest experiences for me personally was what happened after the baby came. there was a lot of postpartum blues. which was really hard for me. and sometimes dad has to step in. because mom doesn't know why her body it feels like you are taken over by aliens and you can't control the way you feel. you need dad to help step up. it's really hard those overnight middle of the night, you know, feedings and stuff. no one can prepare you for the exhaustion. >> that's where dad can step in. he can get you in a comfortable chair. bring you the supplies you need from a pillow around you, bringing the baby to you so you are more comfortable. setting you up with something to drink as you are breast feeding. sometimes it can take awhile. as the baby is latching on you have something to help soothe yourself as well. >> michelle: or if do any side nursing in bed dad can bring the baby to you. you feed the baby.
and gets to go back to sleep. what else do you guys cover? let's do the swaddling thing. this is the first thing you learn how to do when you have a new baby. you get pretty good at it. >> these are comfortable for moms because they're nice and tight. take a regular receiving blanket. fold the corneror and bring the baby up to the ear line. create a pocket on the side. >> michelle: oh the memories. >> bring it across the baby. you use their weight against themselves. bring the sweet pea tail up as i call it. the left arm underneath and bring bring the entire thing across and give them a nice baby roll as you called it earlier. keeps them safe. you can hold them very comfortably in this position. >> michelle: so if there are moms watching or dads watching and mom wants to let dad where to go november 5, '10 a.m. you said you have them all throughout the month.
>> michelle: next one will be november 5th. get dad enrolled. how many days is the class? >> two hours from ten to 12. or two to four. >> michelle: thank you so much. you are an expert swaddleer. you've had four kids. we'll be right back. stay with us. we've learned a lot about how joe heck works. follow the money. he called nevada's foreclosure crisis a "blip" and took almost $700,000 from wall street,
and then there's money he's taken from payday lenders who charge 521% interest. heck co-sponsored legislation protecting their predatory practices. add it all up, and joe heck is working for corporate special interests. and that doesn't work for nevada. senate majority pac is responsible for the content of this advertising. i'm catherine cortez masto and i approve this message. narrator: 2013: joe heck votes to shut down the government, risking vital services but as federal employees like air traffic controllers worked 16 days without pay, joe heck continues to cash his paycheck... even as 244 members of congress refused their pay.
joe heck says he deserves it.
