this roller coaster season has had a pattern of great performances one week followed by a tough one the next. if that holds true - rebel fans are in for a good one..but to do itunlv will have to dominated the running game on both sides of the ball. music/nats san jose state has had it's share of struggles this season....off to a 2 and 6 start.....but the spartans have also put together competitive games and knocked off unr a couple of weeks ago. when the win it's because they're running the football. in they're two victories, san jose ran the football at least 50 times...using a platoon of three backs. they also have a dual threat quarterback in kenny potter who's not afraid to tuck and run and has scrambling ability to keep plays alive. head coach ron caragher likes what his signal caller
6:25 am
ron caragher/san jose state head coach: kenny is a very good accurate passer. he makes good decisions with the ball with a low interception ratio. he can also run it but i think it's the intangibles that stand out with him. while san jose can run...they also give up a lot on run defense....more than 230 yards a game...meaning unlv will have to get production out of the backfield while controlling the field and the clock. the rebels didn't do that last saturday in the first half...digging a 35-0 hole. tony sanchez: we've got to learn how to bounce back from that and win on the road. not everyone is going to be pretty and we've got to learn how to battle through these things. unlv needs 6 wins to be bowl eligible. they have three with four to go...including a game at boise state. that turns this into essentially a must win situation to keep bowl hopes alive. tony sanchez: if you're going to get into a bowl game these are games you have to win. we have four more opportunities and we need three of them. kevin on cam opportunity comes knocking at 7:30
