|Swingin' (cuts in)|
Back in 1999 Bryan C. was kind enough to lend me the master cassette of his off-air recording of this FM radio broadcast for Duluth's KUMD-FM.
The sound quality is generally very good, though there's some static during the first song as they get the bugs worked out, a tape cut that misses the first few notes of "Swingin'", and a channel issue in "Caroline 2" (introduced as "Caroline No, No No No, No No...2, as in also...as well. Caroline, as well").
I transferred Bryan's cassette to DAT, then the DAT to CDR, making a small edit to soften the impact of the tape cut before "Swingin'".
The cassette was labeled as "January 1996", but at the end the DJ runs down a list of upcoming shows, including a performance by Elliott Smith and the Softies on "Saturday" -- and we know they played Duluth on Saturday, March 9, 1996.
The DJ also mentions "Friday night, tomorrow night", so this show must be Thursday, March 7, 1996. That date makes sense, since Low played Carleton College the very next day, beginning their March-April 1996 tour.
Anyway, enjoy the set, which includes rare performances of "Tired" and "Dark". Also, Alan introduces Transmission as their "Zen Identity cover": nice.
