Very helpful -- Thanks reclaim the records.
Certificate number, place of death and residence all very helpful in tracking down people. This makes it so much easier to comb newspaper articles, i can't send for all the death certificates...
Several people here have voiced the problem of being able to read the codes for the index years 1949-1984. The years 1949-1967 use five digits. 1968-1984 use four digits. If you drop off the last digit in 1949-1967 you will find the locality codes. if you were looking for someone who died in Madison NJ in Morris county in 1962 the code would read 14343. in 1969 the same location would read 1434.

Codes do not always match up
Having same problem as previous reviewer. The Department of Health Codes do not match up if you have a 5 digit code. How do you decipher them? I have no problem when there is a 4-digit code, but there are times when the code is 5 digits and nothing will match up.

Doesn’t make sense
The codes are only four digits, but I’m looking for 18205.
