Captured by Aqua's MODIS instrument on September 10, 2003, the (category 4) hurricane heads west towards the U.S. Isabel's maximum wind cuts are at least 135 mph. The thin cirrus clouds indicate that outflow is on the western side and expanding to the West. Note: This visualization shows the position of a category 4 hurricane. Initially, you see the United States and the Atlantic Ocean. You then zoom down to Isabels position hundreds of miles east of Cuba. Animator: Stuart A. Snodgrass (GST).
