Sermon continuing the series on Disciples Making Disciples: the Beatitudes. "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." Being meek isn't weak. It is having strength under discipline, control. We are made to be yoked. It is how Christ sent out his disciples.
Again we get homework for Lent (already). Early warning to be praying for someone to disciple with throughout Lent. Last year we prayed and talked about the Gospel. This year Daniel is assigning a book to discipleship partners. Who will you prepare for Easter with?
Discipleship is not something we do and get it over with. It is a commitment to live and study and follow Christ as Lord. Let us pray for the courage and commitment to follow Him.
The story I tell in the sermon is an old story that was told to me by my Teacher when I was younger. It is not to be taken as a literal retelling. The story, as I learned it, is that the Japanese student went on to submit to the Chinese emperor as a warrior and member of his court due to his great wisdom. He is famous in his own right for being wise.
Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
