LS Japanese freighter "Wakaho Maru" partly submerged, having struck a mine. Ship was en route from Genzan on 31 July 1945 with a cargo of 129 tons of coke and 64 tons of soy beans. She anchored at the outside of the harbor and while still anchored and moving with the tide, she struck a mine. Damage: Total loss; Gross Tonnage: 2101 tons; Dead weight: 2518 tons; Engine Type: Steam of 970 HP; Ship's Captain: Yozo Mishima.

LS Japanese freighter "Sohsu Maru" lying aground approx. 175 feet from the coastline near the village of Kikeiyama-Higashiuru-Maru. Ship hit mine 29 June 1945. Ship was enroute to Nigata from Fuzan with a cargo of 134 tons of cement. She touched the mine about 1-1/2 miles (180 degrees) from Tsuruga White Light House at 17.23 hours. The Japanese used tug boats to pull her to shore where she was left stranded at Kikuyama. Damage: Starboard fell off, three holes in starboard hold, engines and water mains destroyed; Gross Tonnage: 1223 tons; Dead Weight: 1820 tons; Engine Type: Tripple Steam 890 HP; Ship's Captain: Yasutaro Nakano.

LS Japanese freighter "Eiko Maru" beached off the coast of Azo (near the same area as above). She was outbound with a load of 50 tons of saltpetre, 50 tons of iron sulphide. She touched the mine at a point 35 degrees 42 minutes N latitude and 135 degrees 50 minutes E longitude (approx. 200 feet from Azo) on 17 August 1945 at 16.45 hours. She was bound for Fuzan. Gross Tonnage: 887 tons; Dead Weight: 1014 tons; Engine Type: Diesel 270 HP; Ship's Captain: Toshiro Yonezu.

A series of moving shots showing the Italian steamship "Conte Verde" and the Japanese passenger ship "Taruyasu Maru".
The history behind these two ships: The "Conte Verde" was completely overhauled in Shanghai and later struck a mine near Shanghai. Was then towed to Maizuru.
The "Taruyasu Maru" was attacked by USAF planes on 30 July 1945 and sunk near the Coast Guard ships shown above. At a later date the Japanese floated her. Note the water line marks where the ship had rested underwater for some time.
