the snow is coming. light flakes falling in some neighborhoods. can you see wet weather moving towards us on the first alert radar. poconos mountain the welcome that radar. the slopes will be ready for the season in no time. for many the monday commute will be a bit messy. details on the timing of the wintry mix just ahead. also this morning, a man at tropicana casino in atlantic city. a witness started recording this video moments after it happened. we're following the investigation. good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary connors, 9:00 on this sunday. nbc 10 weather team has issued
first alert that will take effect later on today. what does that mean? we want to make sure you're prepared for wintry mix coming towards us. krystal klei, fill us in. >> this first alert starts this afternoon and overnight through monday. that's a look at dangerous conditions possible especially north and west of philadelphia. but you look at your radar and slight and might think the snow is already here. not necessarily. what we're looking at, falling through west and central parts of pennsylvania but not necessarily moving through maryland and into our viewing zone. why this happens? sometimes radar, because it's that beam that shoots up into the sky, further it is from the location point, the higher up in the sky it's taking that reading. you may see snow high above you but it doesn't it to the ground meaning your return on radar is a little deceitful. let's take a look, i'm zooming in on delaware. you can see snow.
i just checked an update in wilmington and it's pot reporting snow at the surface. i would love to know if you're seeing anything out your window we can't everywhere at once. what i think is happening is some very isolated flakes may be falling through part of delaware, chester county, into lancaster as well as redding. but for the most part this very light at best. this is not the main event of your first alert. i can tell you we do have snow reports coming in right now in harris harrisburg, so there are spots this morning and that's what you're seeing on radar. as for temperatures, it's very cold, right around freezing or below. so it's going to be a cold day. we still have the first alert to track and we'll do it hour by hour coming up. some businesses thrive in this cold weather. whitehall christmas lot very busy. the only tells us doesn't feel frigid conditions because he's working hard to sell those trees. in the meantime penndot says their crews will be out on the
roads. >> temperatures being so low, any type of precipitation coming down could freeze on the roadways. we'll keep crews out. >> aaa recommends you check tires and batteries and floods. get our app for your smartphone or tab let, track up to the minute radar and alerts sent to your devices. you can customize for your neighborhood. the app will give you a message if your child's school is closed or opening late tomorrow because of the conditions outside. new this morning, police are on the scene of a shooting just outside of the tropicana casino in atlantic city. the victim was found in the valet's parking area around 3:00 this morning. witnesses tell nbc 10 the man was barely conscious as emergency crews loaded him into an ambulance. right now we're working to find out more on his condition. >> did you just get shot?
>> no. >> call a cop! >> this video from instagram shows the shooting victim lying on the ground outside the casino. a fight led to the gunfire. we'll keep you posted right here on nbc 10 and nbc10.com. also new this morning police are investigating an armed robbery at a wendy's in kummco e cumberland county. no one was hurt. they are trying to sort out what was stolen. so far no arrests in the case. changes in effect on septa's regional rail line. schedules for most of the lines will be adjusted. that means some trains will depart earlier or later than schedule. the changes impact 14 different stations. we've the details on those changes right now on the nbc 10 app on nbc10.com. this morning we have new details about a fire at a refinery in northwest
philadelphia. company officials at philadelphia energy solutions tell us they quickly took care of the problem that started the fire. they also tell us the incident only lasted minute last night and placed under control. officials at the refinery will not say how the fire started what we do know is hazmat crews and firefighters called to the scene before 11:00 last night. nobody here was hurt. this morning investigators are trying to figure out exactly what led to a double shooting in delaware county. police confirmed two people were shot at a produce market in upper darby. both victims rushed to the hospital. a friend tells nbc neither is seriously hurt. we've been checking with police to find out if they made any arrests. no word yet. out of delaware county, a suspect during a home innovation. according to an investigator somebody tried to break into a house on upland and chester afternoon. police say the home owner shot and killed the would be driver during a confrontation.
police and delaware county detectives are now investigating. news from bucks county where a former middle school teacher accused of exchanging illicit videos with his student will serve time in prison. a judge sentenced joseph becker to serve time in the correctional city. back in june he pleaded guilty to multiple chashlgs including unlawful contact with a minor. he admitted to pressuring 14-year-old student to send him graphic videos sexual in nature. he used to teach math. now to a special recognition for wilmington firefighter who lost her life trying to save others. artie hope received the honor and was posthumously promoted to lieutenant. >> her funeral held at wilmington's chase center. hope died last week from injuries she suffered during an
arson in september. she ran into a burning row home to try to rescue two firefighters who were later found dead at the scene. many paid tribute to the sacrifice she made. >> an honor. you've taught me so much. you served with dedication and valor. rest in peace. rest in peace. >> hope was the department's first african-american woman firefighter. the fire chief officially retired her badge during the service. captain christopher leach and hicks killed in the blaze. a woman facing murder charges for allegedly starting the fire on purpose. 9:07 on sunday, hats off to flyers. a hat trick pushes flyers to their eighth straight win. coming up, we'll tell you more about their match-ups today. then oh deer.
welcome back. starting with neighborhood forecast. sunday is going to be a very cold one. doesn't matter where you are. 37 the high in center city, lansdale at 36. all of us will be cloudy. remember, very isolated chances of some snow this morning. it's going to be light and very spotty at best. doesn't look like much is making it to the surface this morning. snow more likely in the afternoon near lehigh valley and poconos where temperatures will peak right around freezing for the temperature. in new jersey, 35 for trenton, mers county later today could start to see spotty snow showers, especially northern half. in the jersey shore locations,
39 for ocean city, 42 cape may. smyrna, 39. isolated snow shower moving through. snow and rain timing is more focused in the second half of your day and overnight. here is the timing. from noon to 10:00, should stay focused near poconos and lehigh valley. won't be constant but in and out pushes of snow. this is when we see accumulation because temperatures remain below freezing for the most part. 11:00 to midnight we'll start to see the front move in. this will force warm air in, bring a change quickly of snow to rain. i think it will start with a mix in suburbs and snow for lehigh valley and poconos, still snow near suburbs and rain south of philly. from 1:00 to 4:00, the mixing line pushes farther north. more see rain but icy concerns north of philadelphia are possible. we'll talk more about the timing with future cast coming up. >> see you shortly. thanks for that, krystal. now to this, this video

a bombing at a church in cairo, egypt, has killed 25 people and injured dozens more. saint marks cathedral is home to the pope. no one claimed responsibility yet for the bombing. but a bombing in cairo on friday that killed six police officers is being blamed on a group with ties to the muslim brotherhood. >> broadcasters in turkey were on the air when two bombs exploded. a suicide bomber targeted turkish police. 38 people were tilled, 10
arrested in connection with those explosions. back in the u.s., cam manager for president-elect donald trump returned to her south jersey roots to lead a christmas parade. she didn't receive a warm welcome from everybody in the crowd but that debate stop her from getting in the holiday spirit. >> tonight i want to wish each and every one of you a very happy, healthy, merry christmas. kellyanne conway was grand marshal for the christmas parade last night. hundreds lined the parade route. some protesters in the crowd. conway avoided any talk of politics, indeed asked people to pray. >> after eight years i would ask you to pray for our outgoing president and vice president. i would ask you to pray for our new president and vice president. >> conway grew up nearby and attended high school. at the parade she also received a key to the town.
president-elect donald trump appears to be moving closer to nominating exxonmobil ceo rex tillerson as his secretary of sta state. the decision is drawing some controversy from both democrats and republicans. the 64-year-old oil exec has no formal government or diplomatic experience. however, he was exxon's liaison to the kremlin. tillerson has met with russian president vladimir putin several occasions. republicans are concerned that tillerson's nomination could lead to a drawn out confirmation battle. coming up a little later at 10:30, you can watch "meet the press" with chuck todd. his guest is incoming white house chief of staff reince priebus. as we get closer to the holidays, parents are going to great lengths their hands on the new hot toy. target announced it would be restocking hatchimals today. that brought out moms and dads who lined the target at city heights. they were there at 5:00 this morning. some told us they even got in
line at 7:00 at night. they say it was well worth it. >> we have to. it's too expensive on the internet. we're not doing to pay that money. rather stay the night and do it. it's for the kids. >> it's expensive if you buy it elsewhere. they are sold for hundreds online. by the way, walmart representatives say they are also planning to restock the toys at their stories before the weekend is out. 9:18 right now on this sunday. we are tracking a wintry mix that's moving closer to our region. meteorologist krystal klei has all the details and the timing of it. krystal. >> what we're doing is already tracking some of that winter precipitation moving into our area. don't be deceived. the entire area is showing up, actual snow making it to the ground. sometimes radar will show it high in the sky, not making it to the surface. that is the case over the viewing zone. seeing snow reports to the ground from harrisburg and further to the northwest. the snow that you see through
parts of berks county, lehigh valley, chester county, newcastle county not necessarily making it to the surface. in fact, if we zoom in you see deeper purple in wilmington. i think there's light snow making it to the ground in small pockets as this moves along. in wilmington, 20 minutes ago, a report just overcast conditions. we just had a viewer in dealt report saying no snow where they are. this is a heads up. we're not actually seeing snow for the most part but do not be surprised by very light isolated snow showers extending through chester county or even into parts of berks county as well. this is moving off to the northeast. this could extend further along into philadelphia. can't rule out just an isolated snow shower this morning. that's not the focus of our first alert let's take a look at what is the focus. we go hour by hour, 3:30 in the afternoon. this model going slow meaning
might happen faster than what is showing up. it does show where conditions will hit. through the afternoon, snow near poconos and lehigh valley. that will continue throughout the afternoon into the early overnight hours. by 2:00 a.m., the warm front starts to move in. it's going to force in warmer air mostly from the south meaning rain delaware, new jersey, up through philadelphia. rain/snow mix possible in the suburbs and snow through county and lehigh valley whereby the end, we could see 1 to 3 inches of accumulating snow. the problem is with warm air, that's when you get concern for freezing rain at times as this rain/snow line moves to the north through our morning commute. 5:00 a.m. especially near lehigh valley we see road icing. because it's so cold it could hang onto the first half of the morning commute. all roadways will be wet for the "morning drive" and rain starts to move out. when we hit 11:00 a.m. spotty clouds through the rest. there's a look at forecast temperatures for sunday.
