>> and i'm katy zachry. let's get to crystkrystal klei our neighborhood weather. >> temperatures are great outside. we're going to be looking at changes as we go through your morning hours here. in fact you can already see they're coming from the west. those showers are going to start picking up, looks like about 7:00 a.m. is when they should move into our area. light rain starting out a little before that. you see some moves into chester county right now. and what we're looking at with the rain is warm air that's in place. temperatures are higher than typical for this time of the year and this point in the morning. we're at 56 degrees in philadelphia, 55 in wilmington. atlantic city sits at 58 degrees and millville at 54. if we move farther north we're going to say areas like mount pocono at 43 degrees. huge difference from the low 20s we were seeing yesterday. here are the current wind speeds on top of the rain moving in,

the warmer temperatures, we're breezy to windy. notice the winds are coming in from the southwest. that direction is going to shift, more of a direct west push once the front passes. but ahead of it we deal with the windier conditions. 18 miles an hour in philadelphia and 16 for atlantic city. so we've got the winds, the rain and the warmer air. big changes by the time we move into wednesday. we'll talk details coming up. starting on route 309 this morning, no approximate or delays. there's a crash out in west pots grove on manta ton any street. checking in with 95 we look great, 95 in the philadelphia area and 95 through delaware. that 11-minute trip from 295 to 495. back to you guys.

right now a 5-year-old girl from new jersey is missing. she and her 71-year-old great grandmother have not been seen for days. >> the pair was headed to north carolina for christmas but they never made it there. nbc 10's matt delucia is tracking developments from the digital operati operations cent >> there are three states involved in the search and the family members are baffle as to what happened. here are the photos of 71-year-old barbara briely and 5-year-old la'myra. they left on christmas eve on way to visit family in north carolina. you see the map there. relatives tell us they lost spoke to them at a gas station about halfway. but they haven't heard from them since and they doesn't show up. we spoke with the woman's grandson and he said that family members drove south in search of their loved ones. >> people are on facebook, pim

calling my mom, see if they got anything. >> police in three states are looking for the car that the two were in, a 2014 silver toyota rav 4, new jersey tag c 80-els. a gas station employee told a tv station in north carolina that barbara briely drove in saying he was lost and needed directions and that she didn't know how to work the maps on her phone. that's one lead there. but we're going to be working throughout the day for updates as this family and police continue their search for these two. live in the digital operations center, matt delucia. in south philadelphia, police and neighbors are looking for answers after the murder of an elderly store owner. the victim was 81 years old, marie buck. gunned down on christmas eve. a man in dark clothing shot buck a dozen times inside the grocery store on south 6th street that she's owned for decades. police continue to search for the gunman.

buck's daughter said the murder is beyond explanation. >> she was murdered. she was murdered. and i saw my mother when i went in there and i just couldn't believe somebody would do that to her. >> a memorial is now growing outside the store. buck's family said he was planning to retire next movant. tonight wu eel have a chance to help a philadelphia grandmother and her kids who lost their home in a fire. this is the destroyed home. the red cross took in sheila johnson and her three grandchildren following the fire earlier this month but now the help is coming to an end and johnson told us they have nowhere to go. >> this is everything we have. it's gone. it's really traumatic. >> a fundraiser for the family is scheduled tonight from 5:00 until 9:00. it's 5:35 right now, 56 degrees outside. this morning in burlington county one man is accused of trying to lure teenagers to his

car. florence township police say he approached a group of boys who were walking on broad street on christmas day. hi alledgedly tried to get them to perform sexual acts on phim. a professor at drexel university is drawing criticism for a controversial tweet. school officials met with him after he tweeted all i want for christmas is white genocide. the professor told us the term was a an imaginary concept which was mocking. this is a top ten trending topic in the u.s. we talked to a drexel student and a nearby merchant and got reaction. >> i think that he should have been more careful with his words. i believe that free speech is okay in this day and age but i feel like a lot of people may get offended by that. >> look, anytime you use the word genocide you have to be extremely careful what you're doing. that as serious as it gets. >> in his bio the professor

that's sitting right now over the camelback camera area. you're going to be driving north, that's the spot that you'll run into trouble. everywhere else looks good. ten is the max you'll see on the visibility map meaning we're clear out there as we go through the morning hours. but we're not clear as you go up into the sky. we've got clouds building in and rain heading our direction. the clouds are indicated be i the white, that's the satellite look. light rain picking up, the more bulk of the rain sits to the west of us. it's heading our direction. the line of rain is going to keep tracking or way as we go later into the morning and especially as we go through that morning commute. that's when we're talking showers passing and then it starts to move out. here's a look at the forecast today. temperatures are unseasonably warm. 62, the forecast high in philadelphia. already at 56 degrees right now in center city. somerton at 59 degrees and in

the suburbs, upper 50s as well. and those mid 50s for the lehigh valley. yesterday we were struggling with breaking the freezing mark. then we look at parts of new jersey, 58 in trenton. we could see pockets of heavier rain possible. not looking like a steady downpour but some pockets this morning. cape may at 62 for the high and 63 for smyrna. we're looking at showers the first half of your day, windy as well, then we start to clear out and cool down big time. as we go from the last few days where we saw temperatures warmer than average in the 50s, today up in the 60s, look at wednesday, 42 degrees only for the forecast temperature which is right back to average but will feel much cooler. 20 minutes before 6:00 let's get you out the door with a check of i-95. >> first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington is standing

it's 5:45. now to an amazing story of survival. a community college profes sore is recovering in a hospital out west. she survived 30 hours of freezing cold after her family's car got stuck in a ditch. the rescue crews found her and then found her husband and 10-year-old son near the utah/arizona border. the family lives in north hampton county. luckily klein had wilderness survival training so it was decided that she would leave her husband and son in the car and

go find help. it was snowy, windy and frigid. her cell phone lost service and died. klein walked 30 miles before finding a ranger station and help for them all. >> kept thinking of my 10-year-old and thinking i have to help. i didn't want to fall asleep because i knew if i fell asleep, you hear stories that you would freeze to death. i don't think we're going to be doing too much traveling. maybe we'll pick a beach destination next time. >> she has not lost her sense of hum humor. she's being treated for severe frostbite and the hospital is monitoring her recovery this morning. weeks after a native american group won a victory over a pipeline in north dakota, another pipeline battle should be shaping up in new york and new jersey. the pilgrim pipeline would run to lyndon. the pipeline is going through a reservation which is what the tribe is protesting.

>> i approached the project from anrospect. there is no end goal because i don't know what will come of it. >> i kept pressing him, i said do you hope this will lead to a new job? >> he hopes that this help him not need a job, hoping the project will turn into a job. the weather is not bad out. >> it's incredibly warm but you're cracking showers. >> if we could hold the temperatures and not have to worry about the rain, it would be perfect. shower activity is moving in already. here's a look at the radar and satellite. this is the wide view because we have the bulk of the rain sitting to our west. this is what we were warning about yesterday. now we're trying to track a few spot showers moving into the region. right into chester country we have light rain starting to move in. the deeper green is a good indicator this is actually making it to the ground. temperatures are in the 50s so

no worry about ice or snow. this is rain moving in. if we pull this out, most of us are still dry but we've got the clouds and now the rain is getting much closer. as it starts to creep into harrisburg, that's when we know we're next. this is going to move in around 6:30, 7:00 a.m., more rain moving by starting west and spreading east. here's a look at the hour by hour forecast. we're starting here, the model already is going a little too strong. that's a head's up. i think this is running an hour faster than it should. but it does a nice job of showing the scattered nature of the showers with pockets of heavier rain possible. about an hour ahead of schedule. this is more of like a 9:30 look. the morning commute will be a wet one if you drive 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and then the showers move out through the afternoon. actually takes the clouds with it and starts to pull in cooler air. temperatures will make their way

to the low 60s. but that's going to be very early afternoon. around 1:00. then the temperatures start to slip. we continue through clearing conditions overnight into wednesday. wednesday is mostly clear but we've jumped ahead to your thursday forecast because that's when we bring in the potential for snow. there's the rain, philadelphia, the suburbs, through new jersey and delaware. parts of burkes county, maybe the northernmost enls of the suburbs seeing a rain/snow mix. starts to move out on thursday evening and we'll looking at the potential for a drier weekend but also a cooler one. we'll talk more about that for knew year's eve coming up. ten minutes before 6:00 a.m. this is the time when things start to get busy on the roads. probably a lot of people getting back to work. jessica boyington has that. >> checking in with 95 we just saw on our cameras on 95 about ten minutes ago they were
