some improvement now. zero visibility in locations including wildwood, atlantic city at the airport, could be slowdowns as a result, and toms river. fog to start with. another morning with mild temperatures. instead of the upper 30s and low 40s which is typical for the beginning of november, 60 in the lehigh valley. 52 in new jersey and the slower. 53. the 58 in philadelphia, there are a couple of warmer neighborhoods. society hill at 60 degrees this morning. west mt. airy, 59. 55 in northeast philadelphia with that fog. the fog will not be around all day. temperatures will start to creep up. this is at 8:00 this morning. fog will be thinning out. the temperatures will wind up in the 70s for the ride home. i'll break it down hour by hour when i'm back in a few minutes to show how quickly the fog disappears. first jessica boyington has the first alert traffic. >> we're starting on the schuylkill expressway with good news to report.

back open. both directions are okay. we're watching this around the vine street expressway. typically we see a closure here. that's in between this point eastbound and south street. so right now, back open. just on schedule. you'd be good to go once you head out on 76. this time 95 through delaware, 11 minutes northbound. 295 to 495. speeds into the 60s. we'll end in new jersey where no problems on route 38 in mowerinstown at nixon drive, eastbound and westbound are dry, empty. and not seeing fog there so far. this morning, city inspectors are checking out vacant row home in philadelphia that collapsed last night. no injuries reported are. the house on west fisher avenue gave way just after 10:00 last night. now they're looking for problems with the neighboring homes. a man and woman dead after they were found shot in a car in philadelphia. both shot in the head. police now say this appears to

be a murder/suicide. nbc10 at amber and venango in the kensington neighborhood where police say they found a gun in the man's hand. investigators say the couple lived in the neighborhood and had a history of domestic violence. 5:02. the race to become the next governor of new jersey is entering the final weekend for candidates as they continue along the campaign trail in hopes of earning your vote. election day is tuesday. >> nbc10's matt delucia is live in mullica hill, gloucester county, with what you need to know about the candidates before you hit the polls. matt? >> reporter: that campaign trail will be making its way through south jersey this weekend. this is the crunch time. time to convince those last-minute voters to vote and slot for the candidate that they want to be in order and succeed. current governor chris christie. so that will be happening on tuesday. this weekend, of course, it's going to be busy. republican candidate kim guadagno is scheduled to make a

stop here at the harrison house diner in mullica hill. she'll be making other stops. her bus tour this weekend is called main street, not wall street. a little jab at her challenger, democrat phil murphy, a former executive of goldman sachs. and guadagno is outgoing republican governor, chris christie's lieutenant governor. some of the big issues that they've been trying to sway voters with over the past weeks leading up to this election -- they've been battling it out over property taxes, education, also immigration. one thing of note to mention here was that guadagno has been trying to win voters in the past few weeks after murphy said in a debate that he would consider to make new jersey a sanctuary state for undocumented immigrants. as of now, the democrat phil murphy is leading in the polls. of course, both candidates will be up and down across the state over the weekend.

up until tuesday getting last-minute voters. the big question will be who will succeed governor chris christie. both candidates doing the best nay can to try to win. nbc10 news. on tuesday, voters in philadelphia will decide on the next district attorney. the race pits republican beth grossman against democrat larry krasner for the seat once held by seth williams, who's serving time in prison for corruption and bribery. 5:04. now to breaking news we're following. one person is dead and two others hurt including a 12-year-old boy after a shooting at a starbucks in chicago. here's what we know. police say a masked gunman opened fire in the coffee shop, then took off running. the shooting apparently stemmed from a drug deal gone bad between the gunman and one of the victims. the boy and third victim are in critical condition now. two thumbs up from one of kaemd county's finest. rookie police officer patrick on, hanlon shot at pointblank

range. could be released from the hospital today. as the officer continues to recover, we're hearing from his family who had to wait for word about what happened. officer ohanlon was shot in the face. >> the phone call woke me up, is this happening? i felt my heart beating like this. >> had him out of there within three or four minutes, probably faster than that. >> other officers quickly arrived to apply a tourniquet to the officer's leg and arrest the suspect. in the lehigh valley, police say a mother is responsible for the death of her 2-year-old son. they found the boy unresponsive in a bathtub full of water. the faucet still running. his mother, 32-year-old michelle wallace, was passed out on the couch in this apartment building officers said the sound of running water from another room alerted them that something else

was wrong. police tried to revive the boy, but he was already dead. investigators found a spoon and a syringe when they searched the apartment. she's in jail on a half million dollar bond. philadelphia police now tell us a teen sex assault victim used a sword there her home to fight -- sword from her home to fight an attacker. the man knocked on the door at noon on monday saying she worked for supervisor. she said -- for verizon. she said to come back when her mother comes home. he let himself in and assaulted her. police are looking for the attacker. if you've never taken a close look at hour fire extinguisher, now is the time to check it. kidde is recalling nearly 40 million after a death in our area. they have plastic handles or push buttons. hundreds have reported failing fire extinguishers, but the only death happened in chester county. the man crashed his car in whiteland in fourth 2014. when first is -- in 2014.

when first responders tried to put out the flames, the kidde sting wishers -- extinguishers didn't work. tap the app to find out how to get a new extinguisher. the mayor says the city of philadelphia wants its schools back. and it seems there's no lack of support. check out the response when he demanded the state impose a school reform commission vote to disband itself. [ cheers ] the city council chamber erupted in cheers as the mayor demanded local control of philadelphia schools. he says now is the time after a contentious 16 years. kenney wants the city to have its own nine-person school board that he will appoint. he says the biggest benefit for the community is accountability. parents we spoke with agree. >> again and again we told the people of philadelphia that the state of their schools is someone else's responsibility. that ends today. >> an opportunity for parents,

teachers, and true community members to have a voice on the local school board unlike at the src. >> while the community widely embraces the move, we heard from parents who fear the school board will not represent the entire community. those members will not have to be a representative of any specific district or geographical region. the src will vote on its future in two weeks. this morning, we're hearing from the foiphillies' new manag. the team introduced gabe kapler. the 42-year-old played in the majors for more than a decade. recently he served as director of player development for the dodgers. here's kapler on what's next for the phills. >> i don't know what there isn't to be excited about. are we perfect? absolutely not. do we have holes to fill? of course. is there a ton to get fired up about? that's why matt and i are sitting together now and we'll be smiling a lot.

>> now there are only two managers in baseball who are younger than gabe kapler. 5:09. check this out. harleysville, pennsylvania, that's thick fog this morning. that's not the only spot. lots of fog in south jersey as south jersey, the suburbs, are a bit cooler than yesterday. and with the moisture level still running high, the atmosphere, seeing areas of fog. lumberton, mt. laurel, low 50s. robinsville, 57. a couple of days ago, princeton had dropped into the 20s. not this morning. the cold air is still on hold. returns for part of the weekend, the cooler air. doppler radar and satellite, high clouds north and west helping keep temperatures elevated in allentown, berks county, upper montgomery and bucks counties. where it's clear, that's where you're getting the cool. during the day, we warm into the 70s. warm air is surging ahead of the

shower activity moving into northwestern pennsylvania. we may see isolated showers this afternoon. light, brief, not expecting to see heavier downpours. it will usher in cooler air for the weekend. today numbers will go the other direction. this morning, 62 in philadelphia at 9:00. with warming temperatures from the lehigh valley through south jersey, the fog will quickly disappear. by 9:00 it will be done. scattered clouds and a better chance of clouds moving in during the noontime hour with a slight chance of a shower for reading and allentown. look how they fizzle during the afternoon. late in the afternoon at 5:00, another chance of some isolated showers. temperatures in the 70s and lots of sunshine in delaware and south jersey. once the line of clouds comes through, the cold front passes, things start cooling down. 40s and 50s. by 11:00 this evening, numbers will still be falling. i'll show you how long they'll go this weekend when i come back

hodgkin's lymphoma... that diagnosis was tough. i had to put my trust in somebody. when i first met steve, we recommended chemotherapy, and then we did high dose therapy and then autologous stem cell transplant. unfortunately, he went on to have progressive disease. i thought that he would be a good candidate for immune therapy. it's an intravenous medicine that can affect the patient's immune system and unleash it against the cancer. with chemotherapy, i felt rough, fatigue, nauseous. and with immune therapy we've had such a positive result. i'm back to working hard. i've honestly never felt this great. i believe the future of immunotherapy at ctca is very bright. the evolution of cancer care is here. learn more at appointments available now.

we've paid a big price for chris christie and kim guadagno. they gave out billions in corporate tax breaks. millions to whitewash the bridgegate scandal. millions more wasted on empty office space. we got stuck with the bill. property taxes up. train and bus fares up. college tuition up. women's healthcare funding eliminated with christie and guadagno we're paying more and falling behind. four more years of kim guadagno is unaffordable.

quarter past 5:00 a.m. get those alarm clocks ready. there's more to look forward to than just the weekend, people. we're about to gain an hour of sleep. >> yes! >> right? we fall back sunday morning before the workweek begins again. >> pamela osborne spoke with experts about how to adjust to the time change because it's not as easy as you think. >> reporter: that's right. before you get too excited about gaining that extra hour of sleep, experts say people tend to get less sleep during the fall time change.

for most people it only takes a day or two to get adjusted. for some it can take as long as a week. aaa is reminding drivers to look out for sun glare machine and reduced visibility on the road during the evening commute. in between now and then, there are some things you can do to help your body get ready for the change. i sat down with dr. carl dugrumgee, director of the sleep disorder hospital in jefferson center. he suggests starting saturday cutting out caffeine after lunch. he says to try to stay away from alcohol, food, and water within four hours of going to sleep. do something relaxing before bedtime. >> if you follow some of the sleep hygiene tactics, you'll adapt more rapidly. you may find that you're sleeping a bit better at night. you'll sleep more continuously, wake up more refreshed in the morning. and hopefully not be so tired or slee sleepy during the day, or if you

started to climb in a couple of neighborhoods. port richmond up to 65. 59 in west mt. airy and graduate hospital. a warm start. and back into the 70s this afternoon. clear skies for most of the area. a few high clouds in the lehigh valley keeping temperatures warmer this morning. the fog that's developed in new jersey and into south jersey, that's going to clear during the day. this afternoon, this line will showers will bring us clouds. most areas won't see even the first raindrop. it will cleaver heading into saturday -- clear heading into saturday. there's another chance of wet weather over the weekend. this is the futurecast. clouds come through later today. a sprinkle or two is possible. enough sunshine to warm into the 70s this afternoon. once the clouds clear, this is tomorrow at 9:30, the cool weather will be with us. the temperatures will be dropping, and it will stay lower during the date on saturday. lots of sunshine, then late-day clouds. look at the showers from the

west. there's a good chance we'll see some sunday morning. most of the day sunday, i think it's going to be dry. near 60 degrees with clouds and sunshine. more sunshine than clouds on saturday. 60 degrees or close in philadelphia. then into the 60s even though morning showers on saturday. a nice warmup sunday afternoon. >> thank you. 5:19. let's look at traffic and specifically route 1, the boulevard. >> jessica boyington is watching the cameras. watching that around 17th street. we're not having any problems so far on the boulevard. that northbound and southbound side, nice and clear. roads are dry. the schuylkill expressway back to normal following an earlier construction project that closed it moving through center city. the drive time back to normal, 12 minutes from the blue route to the vine. average speeds into the 60s. continue and the cameras at the white horse pike. 295 in here on the northbound and southbound sides.

[ laughing ] look at the smiles and the hard work that the people here are doing. it's like making mini sandwiches. they're no different than anyone else. they just want a job. they want respect and they want dignity. this is a nice place. yeah. he plays basketball with lauren. steve called, fairly frantic. you know, he had a premature baby and i think he had just been given the diagnosis that she had down syndrome. lauren brought out the best in me. she made me a different person. deep down in his heart he feels for people who are disadvantaged. lauren's a light in everybody eye. she's the spark that has started the fire. the goal is to keep places like this open so all people, regardless of disability, have an opportunity for employment. see, i love you. i love you guys too. you know that.

yeah. . here's a story that shows that no one is above the law. >> can't have it in your hand at all. >> this is video of a police officer pulling over the wife of new jersey governor chris christie. it happened in sommerset county in april. the video is just being released. he gave mary pat christie a ticket for distracted driving because she had a cell phone in

her hand. christie wasn't making a call, but it doesn't matter according to the law in new jersey. she pleaded guilty and paid the $250 fine. her ticket was part of a statewide distracted driving crackdown. actor kevin spacey faces new allegations of skmul misconduct -- sexual misconduct. eight employees of "house of cards" told cnn spacey made the set of the show a toxic environment. one said she was sexually assaulted. netflix announced it has shut down production of "house of cards" indefinitely felt we're waiting to see what that means for season six. netflix had already decided to end the show after the season prior to the allegations against spacey. trending this morning, sarah hyland is slamming a magazine article claiming that she's had plastic surgery. instead, hylands she's had the worst medical year of her life and her face has been altered by lifesaving medication.

lined up for a while now. crazy. good morning, welcome to "nbc10 news today," i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm via sikahema. i've got a feeling some fans, on their phones, were tuning in. they wanted to see what the forecast will be like out there. let's check in with meteorologist bill henley and the most accurate neighborhood weather forecast. they lucked out today. not cold outside. you don't need the winter gear. it is foggy in many neighborhoods. look at harleysville, pennsylvania. thick fog is not just. there coatesville down to one-mile visibility along with lancaster. we have seen many neighborhoods at zero visibility. northeast philadelphia, wrightstown, toms river, reporting zero visibility. and wildwood and atlantic city seeing some of that very dense fog. like yesterday the fog will start in many neighborhoods and then disappears during the day. 57 in the suburbs. 54 in new jersey. the warm spot because of clouds overhead. easton.
