and some needed oxygen. the scene was an absolute nightmare in arlington. aidman was struck by a train at the clarendon station. subsequently the escalator stop moving making passengers climb up to 100 flights of stairs. here is a video that you will only see here on 7. >> metro officials say this 39- year-old man intentionally jump in front of a train just before 5:00 this evening. that was a decision that was obviously life-threatening but also shut down the orange and blue lines during one of the busiest times of the day. >> i thought of was going to die. >> minutes after a person was struck by a trend this evening the scene it turned chaotic and dangerous. thousands of riders were forced out of the station where all
four escalators stop operating. >> thousands of people down there trying to get out. there is no air. people are screaming and throwing up. they are passing out. >> the intense heat and growing walk up the steps proved too much for many, especially for elderly commuters who were physically overcome and exhausted. some were treated at the scene others transported by ambulance. passengers were actually trapped inside hot and dark cars. >> in this chaos, there is no order. nobody knows which way to go. >> the problem quickly escalated when hundreds of commuters turned into thousands trying to be diverted onto city buses. >> it is too hot. you are walking up the escalators. >> the escalators are designed to shut off due to a -- due to extreme crowding. some people believe it made
matters worse. >> this is the where it -- this is the worst prepared city for an eager to see that i have ever seen. >> it took an hour to remove this man from underneath the tree. there were conflicting reports on his status earlier today. tonight metro officials tell us that he is alive in i see you suffered life-threatening injuries. --icu suffering life- threatening injuries. >> it is just another incident for a transit system with many problems over years. >> the station is pretty quiet right now. it was not that way for much of the evening's rush hour. this area is a sea of frustrated commuters trying to get home to describe the situation as chaos.

"i want to know how to get home. >> another frustrating to meet for writers like ana. >> this is pretty bad. >> the man on the tracks issue caused a ripple effect. five stations were shut down. that caused a dangerously pact platforms. >> there is no where to go except down. who is in charge of this system? >> huge crowds caused the escalators to turn off. >> people have been trying to get up for 45 minutes or one hour. >> this woman ended up writing a stretcher to the hospital. others found huge lines for shuttle buses so bad at somewhat along the 110. but to have to get off, it will take you back to the station. everybody was really frustrated. >> this traveler waited and
waited to catch a cab. >> i had a suitcase. i had to walk all around to find elevators. there should be a better way to do it. >> does it make you not want to take the metro in the morning? >> yes. >> we have been in contact with metro, a spokesman told us he understands people are frustrated. this was a pure capacity issue. when they lost the war in july, there was no way to make it up -- when they lost the orange line there was no way to make it up. >> meanwhile, some other developments in the big story of the day. the foil the terror plot was an explosive plan in our region. the rise in government -- the iranian government was behind the plot. one suspect was arrested 10 days
ago. the other remains on the loose. >> this is a really staggering plot that was under way for two iranians the planned attacks in the united states have many outraged. if these accusations are true, iran has crossed a very dangerous line. >> appearing in court today and safely behind bars, he has confessed to an international and a deadly plot. one that would kill saudi ambassador at the direction of the iranian government. >> it reads like the pages of a hollywood script. >> he allegedly hired a man they thought was part of a mexican cartel but was released and informants. it offered him $1.5 million for
the assassination. the informant claimed he would do so withbut one that would be others killed including u.s. senators. >> acting on behalf of the government of iran that said no problem and no big deal. >> according to fbi agents, following the act would include a bombing at the saudi and israeli embassies in washington, d.c. >> this is an outrage that they would reach this far. >> harsh sanctions against iran after denials that they had anything to do with the plot. >> the other suspect is still on the loose, he is likely in iran and said to be a member of a special forces group. president obama has called the

we are following breaking news from orlando. two law enforcement officers escorting president obama's motorcade collided on motorcycles sending both of them to the hospital. in orlando police officer ran into the rear of a sheriff motorcycle. this was at 9:00. the two men were in the middle of a group escorting the president who was attending a fund-raiser. mr. obama and the rest of the motorcade continued on to the airport without any more trouble. >> is at 11:00 tonight authorities have released a surveillance video you are watching here. it shows a stabbing suspect trying to buy a set of lives at the warehouse this morning. her credit card was declined into walked out without paying. she is accused of stabbing a
