the delaware and lehigh valleys. >> accuweather has been warning us for days that today would be miserable with high winds flooding and colder temperatures and i guess we're winds flooding and colder promised us and we're getting you prepared. >> good morning, it's 5:30 on this tuesday. dave murphy is here along with matt pelman who is filling in for karen. good morning. >> good morning, everybody. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows you how this storm is evolving as it comes up the coast and starts to get past us a little bit. we have heavy rain in south jersey all the way up to trenton. some of that still in parts of northeast philadelphia but you can also see how we're seeing drying through wilmington up to about center city. and so things are getting better in the city itself. to the north however that was area highlighted in blue is areas where you're seeing rain mixing with some freezing rain and perhaps a little wet snow as well. and in bucks county, montgomery county and parts of chester county and up through the lehigh valley and up through berks county and lancaster county, there have been some slick spots reported. not everything is icy but it's one of those mornings were you're driving along and suddenly you hit an icy patch
so you want to take it real slow. we are looking at warm air eventually changing this all over to rain as we go toward the end of the rush hour. could happen even early in the rush hour in those immediate areas. as you take a look at the winter weather advisories you can get a sense of how things are going to improve. we have no ice in philadelphia. at 7 o'clock they're likely to lift these counties, the counties like bucks, montgomery out of this advisory and then by 10 o'clock we expect to have the advisory dropped in easton allentown and down toward reading. things could improve ahead of these times but nonetheless you got to be careful up until about those times for possible icy patches. up in the poconos it's going to be ice and snow pretty much throughout duration of this. we have a wind advisory until 4:00 o'clock town the shore. wind gusts 40 to 50 miles an hour. high tide tidal flooding up the coast and delaware bay. that's another issue. we have a general flood watch in effect today until further notice and that just depends on where the heaviest rain begins to hit and where we wind up get something slash
flashy streaks and screams out of this. looks to me like south jersey up into mercer county is the best chance of that. 38 degrees in philadelphia right now, o 42 millville 34 allentown. you need to bundle up a bit. as we go through the rest of the day we're only stochg in the 40's this evening on that smart stone phone. storm tracker 6 app showing there's less rain in the afternoon than the morning. matt roads have been an issue this morning that certainly a lot of rain came down overnight led to ponding on a lot of the area highways david one of them being this one, 95 where southbound here by the betsy ross bridge we had a little lake. vehicle hit that and spun out. the crash has been cleared, the lake has been dissipated, the drain has been unclogged so everything is looking better on 95. we'll start to see the normal morning delays form here shortly but they haven't formed just yet. crash we had on the roosevelt boulevard southbound side by harbison is out of the way. still watching a house fire in north philadelphia along 12th street. stick with tenth or maybe broad instead. we've got some downed wires in plymouth meeting along ridge pike at fairfield road.
plenty of water on the pennsylvania turnpike this morning. eastbound side by reading, 222 there's an accident scene with some lane restrictions and we are getting reports of icy conditions up in the lehigh valley. so, already had a crash on the northeast extension. need to take it easy there as well as on 78 and 22. and just a whole lot of water soggy conditions down in atlantic county leading to some flooding along the black horse pike blocked at cologne avenue. more high water along 40 eastbound at wrangle burrow road. stick with the a.c. expressway to get around those local blockages. matt. >> thank you matt. breaking news here, "action news" has confirmed the tragic information that a philadelphia firefighter was killed while battling flames in the basement of a home in the city's west oak lane section. erin o'hearn is live in the satellite center with more on this. >> matt, this is tragic news this morning. we told you in the last half hour that one firefighter had been brought to einstein medical center and we didn't know her condition. we have confirmed that she had passed battling that blaze in the west oak lane section.
let's take a look at the video from the scene earlier this morning. the blaze broke out around 3:00 a.m. on the 1600 block of middleton street. now, fortunately all the residents inside the home were able to get out. but, again, that fire started in the basement of that home which is a very, very challenging situation for firefighters. it took them about 30 minutes to get the blaze under control. but unfortunately that female firefighter did not make it. >> fires are naturally hard fire fight for us because the whole upper part of the building is exposed so those conditions are pretty tedious any time our fire department gets a basement fire. >> reporter: again, a tragic warning. we have learned that that female firefighter did die in that blaze. we have a crew ling to einstein medical center and of course the crew on the scene will bring you any more information as it becomes
availability we're live in the sat center erin o'hearn channel6 "action news." back to you guys. >> such a sad update and thank you for that, erin. and going on a nor'easter heading up the atlantic coast could dump heavy rain and snow on the lehigh and delaware valleys. we're already seeing some of those effects right now. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in atlantic city and all morning long, katherine you have seen that rain keep coming down by the bucket full it seems. >> reporter: that's true. you want to dig out rain boots and slickers today. you'll need them. the rain has been falling steadily and it will continue falling for some time now. even since we last spoke we've seen it pick up in the wind gusts here. they've gotten stronger along the loansy atlantic city boardwalk where we are. if you take a look down its boardwalk you can see it looks quite empty this morning. of course this time of year and this time of day it's not often packed but you might see some people exercising or out on their bikes. it's been a very lonely for us out on the boardwalk this morning. we see have few brave souls huddled up pushing through the
elements. the rain has been falling steadily winds are whipping and these are conditions we could see for some time this morning. now it is dark so it's hard to see from here but the water is rough, coastal flooding is expected today especially as we hit high tide later on this morning and then there are those wind gusts making sure any lawn furniture is put away, any of those lucio or light it is that can pick up and fly during the strong gusts. put those away if you haven't already because again we really felt the wind gusts pick up. it's been windy all morning, it's gotten even worse. those flags over at the korean memorial if you see them there they haven't stopped moving since we got there. so drenching rain today, heavy winds look out for flooding on the roads. we saw some ponding and pooling on the way here but flooding has gotten worse. the nor'easter is pushing through our area so we'll see these difficult conditions as the morning goes on that. we're live in atlantic city, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thankee thanks for bracing the can conditions down there katherine. let's take a live look at philadelphia international airport in philadelphia here.
we got some wet run ways. no issues really to report here but at newark liberty international airport we have 44 flights canceled probably due to the weather. that's about 7 percent of the flight load but across its country things are looking a-okay but as the traffic builds the airport could see more delays cropping up at phl. live look at mobile6. we are in center city right near hahnemann university hospital and the main issue i think at this point really is the potential for ponding on the roadways 'cause we really don't have the volume yet. that's going to build and so it's going to create more problems but if you're traveling at the speed you're used to traveling could put yourself at risk for hydroplaning so keep the speeds down at least during the rain this morning. follow the impact of the nor'easter on 6abc.com/weather. storm tracker 6 radar will show you the path of the storm plus check temperatures by the hour and watch the full accuweather forecast from our team of meteorologists. >> protesters across the country marched through the streets overnight still angry over two grand jury verdicts in the deaths of michael brown
and eric beganner. >> a large group of college students took to the streets on the main line and ended the night with a peaceful candlelight vigil. >> and. >> you heard some of it there just before the vigil students staged a die-in on lancaster avenue in bryn mawr during the evening rush that they drew chalk lines around black people representing the deaths of michael brown and eric garner and others at the hands of police. >> no indictments, no trial because no one is asking questions. it's worth it all because we're dying. >> i think that if we actually come out and raise awareness about it it might actually make a difference. >> the demonstrators had moved on to bryn mawr college where they took part in a vigil. the night caused traffic delays but no violence and no arrests. >> let's get the latest track that of nor'easter david. >> it's getting right past us at this point. as we take a look at storm tracker 6 live double scan you can see the results. we've got he have had rain down along the coast and there is in the northern suburbs
some areas highlighted in blue where we may still be seeing some freezing rain mixing in. it's any other all freezing rain but in those areas highlighted in blue like bucks county, montgomery county and on up through allentown and down through reading easton and bethlehem also included in this you got to take it slow cause there is the chance that along with the rain you've got a little bit of wet snow but also that freezing rain which is really hard to detect when you're rolling down the row way. so some icy patches in this area highlighted in blue route farther to the south we have some heavy rain from trenton all the way down through mount holly medford, medford lakes berlin right on the cusp of that. notice how philadelphia has actually been tapering down to lighter to moderate rain over the last hour or so and then you get back into media, the county seat of delaware county, chadds ford down into wilmington and you're drying out. two issues right now up in the northern suburbs the scattered icy patches possible over in south jersey the heavy rain but from philadelphia south we're actually seeing a dry
slot move in that's improving the situation. as we take a look outside we have right now sky 6 and you can see that it's obviously cloudy and still damp in philadelphia and the heavier rain that was in philadelphia earlier may still be of the on the roadways in terms of ponding and puddling that takes awhile to drain after that heavy stuff comes through but the active rain is getting better in the city. 38 degrees in philadelphia, 40 in wilmington, 35 in trenton. in these areas it's too mild for icing on roadways but step up toward the suburbs and you get down to the low to mid 30's in allentown and reading and cooler pockets in between. that's where we have that icy possibility over the next couple of hours and then things up there will gradually improve. 42 in millville, mid 40's down the shore where you are getting pounded by rain. future tracker 6 shows you that between now and 9 o'clock most of that heavy stuff is beginning to pop to the north of us. philadelphia might still be a little bit damp by the end of the rush hour, might still have mixed precipitation up in here butter then we get past nine, 10, 11 o'clock and things start to improve. by one clock in the afternoon
the model has the heavy stuff out of our area and just some wraparound showers up north and we might see a little bit more of that as we go later through the afternoon. getting into the evening a couple of little wraparound snow showers are possible but they're not going to do very much other than maybe put a coating down here or there. what to expect today? inland you'll get 1 to 2 inches of rain by the time it's all added up. possible flooding in some spots along streets and small flashy streams and creeks. wind gusts 30 to 40 miles per hour even after the rain is over that's going to be an issue for most of the afternoon. down the shore up to 3-inches of rain. you can see how it's heavier down there right now and gusts up to 40 to 50 miles per hour so wore worse down the shore. in allentown cloudy skies today, windy, a little bit of snow or freezing rain changing over to all rain. 39 degrees. that changeover probably happening around 9 o'clock this morning, maybe 10:00 up north side. a wet morning and a windy drier afternoon at the shore, 50 degrees the high there and in philadelphia we are going for a high of 44 degrees, a rainy morning butter a windy afternoon with drying.
your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast shows a high of 44 this afternoon. heavy rain in the morning, winds still pretty gusty up through about 4 or 5 o'clock this afternoon and then maybe a afternoon sprinkle or shower but most of your rain done a little later this morning. tomorrow windy, 43 degrees the high, a lot of clouds around and there might be a couple of wraparound light snow showers particularly in the morning but i don't think they really do much more than put down a little coating on grassy surfaces. on thursday, it's nothing but a flurry, mostly cloudy otherwise. chilly, a lie around 42. and then 44 on friday and back up into the upper 40's or saturday and sunday. it's looking dry but chilly for that nighttime eagles game zinn night. bundle up. >> thank you david. 5:42. fierce flames turn an entire city block to ashes in los an investigators have reason to believe the fire was not an accident. >> also when we come back this is just frightening an abduction attempt. a young girl just escapes a predator who snatched her off the street. matt. >> wet tam but at least they

starting to get busier out there but it's not too busy just yet. as we head to the suburbs people coming out of the suburbs so far have a decent ride at this point. they have to watch the speeds because there are some slippery conditions with the wet roadways. as we look lie in plymouth meeting this is the blue route 476 close to the mid-county toll plaza. if you're headed up north towards the lehigh valley watch out for slick conditions, icy conditions up there on the northeast extension, 78, 22 and of course all the local roads but in this area it's just wet at worst and the rain isn't really coming down too much here in plymouth meeting. nearby a set of do you understand wire along ridge pike at fairfield road in plymouth township a new crash along ridge pike in upper providence down township line road. not too bad if you're on 422. no major these at this point. head towards the pennsylvania turnpike on 611 southbound at home depot drive in willow grove watch out for a crash. on the turnpike itself out on the lancaster county-berks
