apartment buildings in new castle county delaware both on the same day with locations separated by 3 miles. katherine scott is live at one of the scenes in claymont with more. katherine. >> reporter: matt, 12 people are out of their homes there were multiple people injured in the fire, but everyone is expected to be okay. you can see there's a lot of damage at the valley run apartments in claymont after last night's fire took place on the unit block of butternut court. the fire broke out at 9:15 last night. when fire crews arrived flames were ripping through the roof. a 79-year-old woman injured her back while excavating and treated at the hospital. a 28-year-old firefighter suffered a head injury and taken to the hospital in stable condition. a paramedic was treated to are a an ankle injury. a neighbor said he saw smoke and alerted neighbors. >> i saw smeak we ran over and
started knocking on doors and started getting everybody out of the apartments an making shower everybody was safe. -- making sure everybody was safe. >> reporter: the fire was 3 miles away from a fire that happened on harbor drive in claymont. nearly 40 people are out of their homes there after that fire tore through close to 20 units. at this time there's no indication that the two fires are in anyway connected we're live in claymont, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> thanks so much, cath clin. developing this morning, an investigation is underway into this raging barn fire in hockessin, delaware, the blaze broke out along the 300 block of gun club road at # 30:00. the other than tells "action news" some of the horses died. him it is unknown at this time how many. 6:06.
hundreds of new yorkers gathered overnight huddle the together to pay their respects on the streets where two police officers were killed in an ambush on saturday. candle light vigil honored officers rafael ramos and we wenjian liu. police say the officers were gunned down by ismaaiyl brinsley who later shot and killed himself. he had 19 prior arrests and had a history of mental illness. the murder of the officers has united the city's residents and sent shock waves across the country. president obama on vacation in hawaii released a statement condemning the killings. >> meanwhile, philadelphia had yet another peaceful protest against police brutality. last night a thousand people marched in blackout philly. many of the demonstrators made a point of contempting the killings of the two new york city police officers. >> we don't condone that type
