basketball programs will go at it, kentucky seeking its eighth national title and first since 1998 and kansas winner of three national titles. ohio state won yesterday in one semi. they trailed by as many as 13 but rallied against the favored buckeyes. eight minutes to go. it's layed in, kansas down by just a point. then ohio state, can't do it. williams buford blocked by jeff whitney, elijah johnson taking the rebound. kansas defeats ohio state 64- 52. they advance to the final four for the first time since winning it all four years ago. the other semifinal kentucky facing louisville, eight plus minutes, wildcats up two. michael gilchrest, kentucky in front by four. just over a minute left, kentucky by five. wildcats attack instead of sitting back. anthony davis, anything you throw up he can just dunk. he had 18 and 14 boards.

welcome back to the washington area nissan dealers sports xtra. >> don't look now, but it's april 1st which means opening day for your nationals is just around the corner. stephen strasburg gets the start thursday in chicago against the cubs. today the second to last spring training game in florida. today gio gonzalez starting for the nats against the cards. bottom 4 carlos beltran with a base hit to left field. the double brings in tyler greene and the game is tied at 1. top of the 9th same score, mark derosa a base hit to the opposite field. danny espinosa is waved home. the foot of the plate espinoza is called safe. nationals take the cards 2-1 and the cards manager mike matheny comes outside. normally they save that for the regular season. tomorrow the nats play their final spring training game in florida against the red sox. it's been a roller coaster ride for your washington

capitals. the last two games have both gone to shootout and in all likelihood their playoff fate would be sealed on the last day of regular season. last night the caps went to a shootout for the second straight game, the opponents the canadiens. the caps shooter matt hendricks and he scores. another look shows the goalie did not go for the fake but hendricks remained culp. he scored on eight of his 12 career -- calm. he scored on eight of his 12 career attempts. alexander semin attempts to win it and he does. caps lead the says are by two for the eighth and final playoff spot in the east. the caps now three games off on the regular season docket on the road tomorrow night against the lightning, at home thursday against the panthers, then pack on the road saturday to conclude the regular season -- back on the road saturday to conclude the regular season against the rangers. flyers on the road lead the penguins 6-3. late 3rd period

absolutely leveled. then all heck breaks lose. brady's chin is pounded. derek england gets the best of the flyers duane semin. the coaching staff also got involved. the flyers beat the penguins 6- 4. philly gets pittsburgh by one point for fourth place in the east. that's a pretty good brawl. >> so from people beating the crap out of each other to a flop shot in golf, you couldn't get two more opposite things. this story when we come back.

welcome back to the washington area nissan dealers sports xtra. >> you know it's a great stretch of sports here. you got the final four this week and then next week it's the masters, but before you go to august arc georgia, final tune-up, the -- augusta, georgia, the final tune-up and while there was no tiger woods there, there was some good quality golf. we'll begin the day with a two- shot lead. the 2010 british open champ seeking his first win on u.s. soil. his approach on no. 8 goes from 259 yards and it

goes less, about a 3-over 75, finished 15-under in third place. phil mickelson began the day six back but never made a push, up on 16 to set up a birdie. lefty finishes 12-under tied for fourth. hunter mahan began two shots back in second place at 16, great touch, rolls to within a couple of feet to set up a par putt. he maintains his one-shot lead. on 18 needs a birdie to claim his share of the lead. oh, but peterson leaves it short. he'd finish 15-under. mahan taps in on 18 to win the shell houston open with a 16- under, the first multiple winner on tour this year mahan. today the sprint cup series at martinsville, two laps to go. ryan newman bumps clint bowyer and clint bowyer takes out race leaders jeff gordon and jimmie johnson. johnson who led 112 laps would finish in 12th place.
