capitals. the last two games have both gone to shootout and in all likelihood their playoff fate would be sealed on the last day of regular season. last night the caps went to a shootout for the second straight game, the opponents the canadiens. the caps shooter matt hendricks and he scores. another look shows the goalie did not go for the fake but hendricks remained culp. he scored on eight of his 12 career -- calm. he scored on eight of his 12 career attempts. alexander semin attempts to win it and he does. caps lead the says are by two for the eighth and final playoff spot in the east. the caps now three games off on the regular season docket on the road tomorrow night against the lightning, at home thursday against the panthers, then pack on the road saturday to conclude the regular season -- back on the road saturday to conclude the regular season against the rangers. flyers on the road lead the penguins 6-3. late 3rd period

goes less, about a 3-over 75, finished 15-under in third place. phil mickelson began the day six back but never made a push, up on 16 to set up a birdie. lefty finishes 12-under tied for fourth. hunter mahan began two shots back in second place at 16, great touch, rolls to within a couple of feet to set up a par putt. he maintains his one-shot lead. on 18 needs a birdie to claim his share of the lead. oh, but peterson leaves it short. he'd finish 15-under. mahan taps in on 18 to win the shell houston open with a 16- under, the first multiple winner on tour this year mahan. today the sprint cup series at martinsville, two laps to go. ryan newman bumps clint bowyer and clint bowyer takes out race leaders jeff gordon and jimmie johnson. johnson who led 112 laps would finish in 12th place.
