smile this morning. >> yeah. >> looks like we're in for a warm weekend. some showers possible an sunday, does not look like an all day rainout. we'll talk more about that plus big, big game in town tonight and tomorrow. how is the weather going to be for those baseball playoffs, post season play. >> we need those answers but at 4:30 we're going to turn to breaking news. d.c. fire and ems are still working the scene of an early morning fire. >> the road has been shut down in both directions. melanie alnwick is live in northwest d.c. this morning with the late braking details. melanie. >> reporter: good morning, guys. still a large response on the scene and foxhall road filled with emergency vehicles from reservoir road completely down the block to macarthur boulevard i would say as a no-go zone at this point. we're going to bring you back here to the house, sort of in the center here. this is in the 1600 block of foxhall road. you a

at the roof of the house here and you can see that one window that's blown out. that is on the second floor. this fire actually began in the basement where there is a dental office and then spread to the first floor and then had some intrusion into the second floor as well. i talked to a d.c. police officer who was first here on the scene. he said he pulled up, he saw a man running across the street. asked him what was wrong. the guy said my house is on fire, my dogs are inside and so that firefighter helped him get the dogs out and soon after that, the house was completely engulfed in flames. it was described to me by the pio here for d.c. fire that the flames were so intense they actually blew out the front door so very fortunate that the homeowner and two dogs were able to get out. there's also a rental property in the back of this office as well, in the back of this house, so two people who lived there, they were also out

safely and that's the good news here. but thbut they said it was kinda difficult fire to fight because the basement itself didn't have any sort of exit or entrance so no exterior exit or entrance so they had to attack it from the inside so that's what made it very challenge for them and you guys may remember there was a very large apartment fire on q street yesterday. some of these firefighters responded to that as well so two very large fires for them in 24 hours, so they brought in extra resources to try to give those firefighters adequate rest and that's some of what you're seeing here on the scene, too. but they're still going to hang around for a little while and make sure that everything has been put up before they pack up and leave and now of course the investigation begins. live in northwest, i'm melanie alnwick fox5 local news. >> ♪ >> time now is 4:32 and now to the latest on the las vegas massacre. investigators have revealed they found an suv belonging to gunman steph

been put out right after the shooting rampage. the vehicle was found tuesday in reno at a home owned by paddock. also the las vegas coroner says details about paddock's autopsy won't be revealed until the investigation is concluded. >> candlelight vigil last night honored a west virginia woman killed in the las vegas shootings. hundreds came out to remember denise burditis. she was at the music festival with her husband tony. she was the mother of two and soon to be grandmother of five. >> disturbing details this morning out of montgomery county after a former school employee has been arrested. authorities say roy andres simmons, iii has been accused of inappropriately touching a 10-year-old girl. he turned himself in last night after detectives say he admitted to the contact. according to records, it allegedly took place last november

program at carter rock springs elementary school in potomac. simmons was a group leader for the program called kids adventures. investigators think there could be other victims and encouraged parents of kids who may have had contact with simmons to talk with them. keep your eyes on the screen. here's another picture police want you to see. this is 10-ye 10-year-old daquan simpson. he was last seen wearing a blue shirt, tan pants and black nike sneakers. >> this morning metro employees and union leaders are calling on d.c. council members to support their push for policy changes that protect metrobus drivers. last night they gathered at a council meeting looking for support on making all assaults on drivers felonies. according to metro there have been 67 assaults on bus drivers this year. right now the council has plans to develop legislation to increase penaltys to protect drivers in the district. >> time right now i

control without co-payment because of the obama administration policy. >> next up here in the district a proposal is on the table to decriminalize prostitution. councilman david grosso believes excessive criminalization is causing more harm than good. he claims it will bring people out of the shadows and help them live safer and healthier lives. it doesn't regard exploitation or how minors involved in sex trade are considered. >> fall and pumpkin spice season is in f full effect. so much so that a school in baltimore had to be evacuated. it began on the third floor of the school in fels point engulfing the students and teachers that they had to be evacuated. the fire department was called and after they did their investigation the source of the smell was located and it turned out to be a pumpkin spice air freshener. >> i don't even know what to say to that. next up, new footage of the late singer

that's just cloudiness we're looking at here and there was trying to be a shower back out to the west of us into parts of west virginia. i don't think that will happen for us. if there is one, i don't think it will clear the mountains. and then we look to today to get kind of a mixture this morning of clouds and sun and i think by this afternoon we should have some good sun out there and that will warm things up. high temperature today back up into the 80's. we'll go middle 80's. winds will be out of the south-southwest five to temperature miles per hour. again, just a few clouds but lots of sunshine. we'll stay dry today, warm conditions that extend into the weekend. even with showers on the sunday forecast, i still think we'll be pretty warm around here. 80, maybe lower 80's depending on how much sunshine we get on sunday. erin, what you got with traffic. >> all right, it is 4:47 right now. we've been off to a pretty quite start this morning. want to keep you updated on the breaking news melanie alnwick is on, foxhall road between reservoir road and q street closed because of that fire department activity. as you head out i

you'll have to detour around that. everything else in northwest looking good this morning. just watch out for that fire activity. 395 northbound on the bridge looks nice. light volume. 11 minute trip from the beltway to the 14th street bridge. that's what we love to see this time of morning. your other bridges key bridge memorial bridge looking great right now. not a whole lot of activity there. metro service picks up at 5:00 a.m. and right now we don't have any metro delays reported. now if you have any questions for your commute just reach out to me on twitter at erin fox5 d.c. and we're happy to help you get around. moving over to news right now, cam newton is now apologizing. the panthers quarterback came under heavy criticism after he made sexist comments toward a beat reporter yesterday. yesterday dannon yogurt dropped him as a spokesperson for one of their brands. his comments were condemned by the nfl. panthers coach ron rivera but newton had yet to issue a apology until he did so last night via a video on twitter. >> if you are a person who took offense

sincerely apologize to you. i'm a man who tries to be a positive role model in my community and try to use my platform to inspire others. and i own -- i take ownership to everything that comes with that. and what i did was extremely unacceptable. >> now, according to a panthers spokesperson after his controversial comments cam newton later had a conversation with the reporter and expressed regrets. however, the reporter tweeted "i spoke to with him after and it was worse." >> 4:49 and the nfl is investigating allegations of racial slurs yesterday yelled at redskins wide receiver terrell pryor during monday night's game in kansas city. video of an exchange with a fan and pryor surfaced on tmz on tuesday. pryor flipped off
