the protesters have been in response these vice, two black men shot and killed by police. the first, the shooting death of alton sterling in beauty refuge lewis. >> then castile. dave, good morning. >> reporter: we're continuing to follow everything. i'm reading tweets from fox 4 in dallas. law enforcement checking trash cans, looking for evidence, as you had just a reported the sniper believed to be possibly the last shooter in this case dead of a self inflicted wound. this all taking place in a parking garage downtown. we can also tell you that this was all taking place at a protest over, as you said the police shooting death in suburb re suburban st. paul minnesota and baton rouge louisiana. we want you to listen to the gunfire captured on video.
>> reporter: witnesses can be heard saying they seen people laying anne the ground as sniper fire rang out. authorities reported three people in custody, the fourth suspect exchanging gunfire in a parking garage. that suspect we understand taking his own life. this started around 8:45 last night as hundreds were gathering to protest this week's fatal shootings in louisiana and minnesota, those shootings at anything social media by storm. dallas police say that the snipers fired ambush style upon the officers with the crowd gathered. >> 40, 50 shots. kept going and going. >> the suspect that we are negotiating with that has exchanged gunfire with us has told our negotiators that the end is coming. he's going to hurt and kill more of us meaning law enforcement.
and that there are bombs all over the place in this garage, and in downtown. so we are being very careful in our tactics so that we don't injure or put any of our officers in harm's way, including the citizens of dallas. >> reporter: again, when you have an update, that shooter dying from a civil inflicted gunshot wound. the dallas sheet says the shooter planned to apparently injure as many people as they could, as many officers, search efforts for the snipers included checks of hotels, restaurants, businesses and some apartments. one woman was taken into custody in the same parking garage where the stand-off had been going on. two others apprehended during a traffic stop. authorities say they do not have an official motive for the attacks as this investigation is just really getting started. police say it's likely they will ask some people to stay away from downtown dallas later this

have the democratic national convention coming up. yesterday, they handled the protest super smooth with during the evening rush hour with hundreds of people being allowed their first amendment rights through the streets. of they had a news conference yesterday about how to handle future protests with the first amendment rights of all the people who planned to be at the democratic national convention probably most from out of town that come here and protest, and so the philadelphia police will be handling things the way they always have. and that's why, chris and lauren, before they put on their shirts and their shields, they put on that vest every day. unfortunately, their heads are vulnerable to anybody who wants to take a shot at philadelphia police officers. they're sworn to uphold the law, sworn to protect and be serve of they're not going to be hiding because of what happened in dallas. you can bet everything on that. >> thank you so much. once again, five dallas police officers have been killed. six others shot and wounded. our coverage of the shooting

dallas for you right now. you can imagine that at the city is paralyzed with chaos about what has happened. also reading here as we get new information in every minute, that at least one civilian, we understand was injured. she was identified by family member as taylor and she was shot while shielding her kids from that gunfire. >> you can see lots of chaos, panic. apparently they said the officers were involved in the protests trying to protect the protesters. suddenly, the gunshots rapping out and you see in the video people scrambling and skaterring to get away. all of this happening of course of two black men alton sterling and philando castile. it's a developing story and we'll continue to follow the details. >> let's go to dave what were. sue is heading to wilmington as we do our friday event midday drive. but the weather? it's going to feel like over 100 degrees today. >> the heat excessive heat
warning continues. but the big issue is when you have a number like this, 80 degrees at this hour. the temperatures doesn't drop below 80. heat continues to build up and build up and structures don't cool off. if you don't have air conditioning it gets hotter and hotter. keep in mind. check in on people. this is the third day in a row we're talking about this excessive heat. starting off at 80 but in wilmington will be at 76 to 80, 85, 90 in no time. excessive heat warning remains in effect for new castle county through the urban areas along 95 through trenton at my satellite radar we'll see a few showers and storms developing later. nothing right now, to see when they're happen, we'll go to the computer forecast. goes to each hour and shows throughout this morning, that hazy clouds, hazy sunshine, the muggy air is here. 10:00 we're still dry. noon, we start to see the first hint that a shower or storm could develop and pop up area,

here's what we know, a total of 11 officers were shot. five of them have died. >> these people are in custody and a fourth suspect was exchanging gunfire with authorities in a parking garage downtown. we just learned from our sister station in dallas that fourth suspect in the garage shot and killed himself. all of this again happening at a protest happening in downtown dallas. the protest, of course, has been in response to these video, two black men shot and killed by police. the first, the shooting death alton sterling in baton rouge louisiana. >> then philando castile in a st. paul suburb, his death streamed live on facebook by his girlfriend. police in a stand-off died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. we're going to talk to dave kinchen. dave, i understand before this person took his or her life, that he had warned officers there were suspicious devices going to be placed all around the city of dallas. what have you learned about the
investigation to see if there are any bombs around dallas right now. >> reporter: that's exactly what the police chief there, police chief david brown had said, that during this negotiation period, the suspect had said that there were bombs in the area. they sent crews out there. police crews, and bomb units to check for those, and also,s this suspect before he took his life, had said, according to the police commissioner, that police chief, i should say down there, that they were planning on hurting as many officers as possibly we also want to show you chilling video showing one of the gunmen armed with a rifle if we can go to that opening fire on the streets of dallas, this was filmed hours after snipers killed five police officers during the protests over the shootings of who black men earlier this week. authority say six other officers were injured. this is video that with

the dallas law enforcement community and the dallas area rapid transit officers killed and injured this evening. i've spoken to text department of public safety director steve mcgraw and directed him to offer whatever assistance the city of dallas needs. in times like re like this we must remember and emphasize the importance of uniting as americans. lauren, you had read a tweet about one of the dart officers who was killed in this. he was in his 40's. >> brent thompson just joined the dart police department in 2009. today. skyfox was over the scene of those protests last night. police document report any incidents during the demonstrations. they do tell us they're always in a state of high alert when seminal happens. how is the tragedy in dallas impacting them? let's go to steve keeley for that part of the story live at philadelphia police headquarters. >> reporter: it's plain simple common sense that philadelphia police and police everywhere around this country are going to take steps to do checks of any overhead parking garages. there's one across from headquarters here they possibly never really took notice before that they will now. response that any copy cat want to be cop killers may want to hide but it's also common sense that police aren't going to come out and make public announcements about any new actions they will take to be on the look-out and alert for not just those who want to do harm to you law enforcement officers but they have to be extra vigilant to keep protesters safe because now there's going to be a carp over any violent blaming
backlash by someone angry over the dallas police killed who want to blame now innocent protesters, we've seen that on twitter even from an ex-congressman down in text saying, all right, black lives matter, this means war, you got things like that already being said. now you got police being extra careful and you can bet philadelphia police do what they always do, that would be to put protesters lives and the citizens lives before their own. they swear to put their own lives on the line every day and they're not going to stop doing that because of losing five of their brothers in dallas. >> we pray for all of them. >> the work has to go on in light of what is gripping the nation right now. you and i had a conversation over the phone last night about the tragedies in minnesota and in louisiana. then we come into work? and wake up to this. >> it's unbelievable. >> it's been a tough week. tough week weather-wise as well. is today the worst of the three
