In this volume the primary intent is to uncover the objective functional relationship between import and export dependencies as they affect the reliability of supply in the past and the future. Until recently, under the aegis of American hegemony, and due to the role the oil multinationals played, both oil exporting and oil importing countries exhibited a sufficiently high degree of dependence on the trade in oil to bring about a symmetry in their reciprocal conditions. The manipulation of oil...

Refractive index data for silicon and germanium were searched, compiled, and analyzed. Recommended values of refractive index for the transparent spectral region were generated in the ranges 1.2 to 14 micrometers and 100-750 K for silicon, and 1.9 to 16 micrometer and 100-550 K for germanium. Generation of these values was based on a dispersion equation which best fits selected data sets covering wide temperature and wavelength ranges. Temperature derivative of refractive index was simply...

For the B-1 Systems Approach to Training (SAT), the primary mechanism for the automated data maintenance is the Sorting Program. The data upon which the Sorting Program operates consists of two interacting components, the Task Analysis Data Base and the Control and Display Catalog. A Thesaurus of Action Verbs functions as a user interface with the Task Analysis Data. This memorandum consists of four computer-generated reports, the first three of which represent the essential information in the...

This handbook discusses the design requirements applicable to Army helicopters for all missions under visual flight rule (VFR) operation, day or night. As such, the scope of this document has been limited to cover the basic aerial vehicles. Design requirements for mission-essential equipment--e.g., weapons, sensors, cargo-handling equipment--are beyond this scope and are not discussed, although the helicopter-integral interface requirements for such equipment are included. The design of power...

The paper reviews the path-goal theory of leadership. This theory states that a leader's behavior is important for good performance as a function of its impact on subordinates' perceptions of paths to goals and the attractiveness of the goals. When leader behavior clarifies these goals or makes them more attractive the satisfaction, performance, and the leader acceptance is expected to increase. The specific relationship between leader behavior and these criteria will depend upon the...

The objective was to determine whether optimal control synthesis methods provide superior means for designing jet engine controllers. The methods design controllers with more capability and/or can be exploited to provide less expensive hardware. For newer kinds of engines the cost to design should be less than for presently used methods. Volume 2 contains three Appendices. Appendix A contains the details of engine math models. The software for the wind tunnel controller is presented in Appendix...
