Human volunteers were exposed to PGDN vapor at concentrations of 0. 03, 0.1, 0.2, 0.35, 0.5, and 1.5 ppm. Exposure to concentrations of 0.2 and greater produced disruption of the organization of the visual evoked response (VER) and headache in the majority of subjects. Subjects repeatedly exposed to 0.2 ppm for 8 hours on a daily basis developed a tolerance to headache induction, but the alteration in VER morphology appeared cumulative. Marked impairment in balance became manifest after...

Certain problems are ill-conditioned, in the sense that their solutions are hypersensitive to small changes in data, only because a slight change in data could cause those solutions to exhibit singular behaviour associated with various kinds of confluence. For example, an over- or under- determined linear system solved by least-squares can be ill-conditioned only if there exists some small perturbations to its matrix which increase its nullity (i.e. diminish its rank); zeros of a polynomial can...

The paper presents a new interpretation of leadership experience and training in an effort to explain why the literature reports no consistent relations between methods of leadership development and organizational performance. The basis for reconceptualization is derived from a contingency model. According to the model, task-motivated leaders perform better in favorable or unfavorable situations while relationship-motivated leaders perform better in intermediate situations.

The concentration of the chemical species are then Fourier analysed at time t. The amount of numerical...

The plasticizing of freeze-dried beef by water addition and the compression of the beef to form rehydratable bars have been accomplished using two different sets of equipment. Water addition has been accomplished by transfer of water vapor to the meat in an evacuated system. The water added should be about 12% of the weight of the dry meat. It can be transferred in a period of 3 to 5 hours. Fat weakens the bars and when high-fat beef is used it may be desirable to use a binder to give the bars...

The kinetics of heterogeneous hydrazine decomposition were determined over the temperature range of 460 to 700K for a polycrystalline iridium surface, and the temperature range of 350 to 450K for an alumina supported iridium catalyst. A change in reaction mechanism and/or number of active catalytic sites was observed at approximately 450K for each catalyst. This is attributed to the irreversible, dissociate adsorption of hydrazine on a significant number of catalytic sites below 450K. Catalyst...

A fiber optics particle-sizing system is discussed with respect to theory of operation and data acquisition and reduction techniques. The system uses a shadow-graphic technique to determine the dimensions and numbers of particles moving in a flow field. The system is digital in nature. Particles pass through a collimated laser beam and are imaged onto a linear array by a coaxial lens. The array is composed of the exposed ends of a fiber optics bundle which serves as a 'link' between the array...

Analyses and design studies have been conducted to determine the characteristics of an Air Cushion Landing System (ACLS) as it would be applied to an Advanced Medium STOL Transport (AMST) equipped with mechanical flaps and a vectored thrust powered lift system. It was determined that an ACLS would be feasible on an AMST type airplane, but requires a special housing arrangement which broadens the ACLS footprint area when it is deployed. Furthermore, special provisions are needed for ground...

Fixed base and piloted simulation studies were conducted to evaluate control systems for a STOL tactical transport equipped with vectored thrust. Unaugmented aircraft flying qualities were found to be unacceptable. However, an augmented control system configuration was found to give excellent flying qualities and satisfactory behavior following engine or control system component failure. The present flying qualities standard for STOL aircraft, MIL-F-83300, was reviewed and several changes are...
