The American Libraries collection includes material contributed from across the United States. Institutions range from the Library of Congress to many local public libraries. As a whole, this collection of material brings holdings that cover many facets of American life and scholarship into the public domain. Significant portions of this collection have been generously sponsored by Microsoft, Yahoo!, The Sloan Foundation, and others.

Description : Amelia Earhart's second airplane was this Glendale-built Kinner Airster, c. March 1923. It was very much an experimental proposition. The engine was a Kinner-copy of the Wright "Gale", forerunner of the "Whirlwind", but it was anything but a success. It threw more oil than it consumed and vibrated excessively. Description : Locomotives and construction cranes, likely in Boulder City, Nevada. After the abandonment of the Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods Railway in 1930, the Railway's Engine No. 8, to the right of the crane in the foreground, was sold to United Commercial, then Shell Oil, and finally Six Companies of Boulder City, Nevada, for work on the Hoover Dam. Description : Chez Yvonne was opened in 1949 by Yvonne Frelier and her son, Roger Frelier. The site at 1854 West El Camino Real was originally opened as Charlotte's, a restaurant, in the late 1930s by Morris and Charlotte Nathan.
