R&D Report 1974-21 : Satellite broadcasting: channel separation requirements for FM television signals and for a FM sound signal adjacent to a FM television channel N.H.C. Gilchrist
This report describes experimental work carried out to determine the frequency separation required between high-deviation FM sound signals, and between FM sound and FM television signals, when they are transmitted on adjacent channels. A frequency separation of 0.8 MHz is recommended for situations where two FM sound services occupy adjacent channels and, where sound and television services occupy alternate channels, a separation of 15 MHz is recommended. The separation required between television signals with sound accompaniment on a separate carrier is also covered and compared with the requirements for television signals which incorporate the accompanying sound signal on a subcarrier. In these cases, the separations recommended are 30 MHz and 29.5 MHz, respectively.
