The Carnegie Institution for Science, formerly known as The Carnegie Institution of Washington, is an independent, nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. Andrew Carnegie founded the institution in 1902 to encourage scientific research and discovery.

The Carnegie Institution for Science, formerly known as The Carnegie Institution of Washington, is an independent, nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. Andrew Carnegie founded the institution in 1902 to encourage scientific research and discovery. 

The Carnegie Institution’s Year Book has been published continuously since 1902. Year Books no. 1 (1902) through no. 21 (1922) are available online through the Biodiversity Heritage Library. The institution has also published more than 600 scholarly books in its Monograph Series.
