Rainfall that enters storm drains is NOT TREATED, and that runoff collects pollutants from properties and streets and carries them into local waterways. That means any trash or debris that goes into storm drains will end up in our waterways and, eventually, the ocean – harming marine wildlife that can get tangled in or ingest trash.

The SeaWorld Animal Rehabilitation Program has rescued and rehabilitated about 20,000 animals in the San Diego region. Ocean pollution plays a role in nearly every case as marine animals ingest trash and debris or get tangled up in it and injure themselves. We all must Think Blue by disposing of trash properly so it doesn’t end up in the ocean – 80% of all ocean pollution starts inland!
