A team of astronauts crashes on the surface of Venus. Accompanied by their robot, they explore the surface and end up destroying the Venusian God. This film is also known as "The Gill Women" and "The Gill Women of Venus". This film began life as a Soviet-produced work. An American producer then added some new footage and changed the credits to hide the film's Soviet origin. The original film, "Planeta Bur", is also known as "Cosmonauts on Venus",...

Operation TUMBLER-SNAPPER consisted of eight nuclear shots in two phases. The TUMBLER phase was of primary concern to the Department of Defense, which called for airdropped nuclear weapons tests. The SNAPPER second phase was a set of experiments conducted by the Atomic Energy Commission and the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory to help improve effects of nuclear weapons. Able, an airdrop event on April 1, 1952, produced a yield of one kiloton. One of the experiments involved an analysis of the...

"The island of Elugelab is missing!" President Eisenhower heard this short report on the Mike shot in Operation IVY from Gordon Dean, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. Mike was the first full-scale hydrogen explosive device to be tested, yet was only a scientific test of a thermofusion implosion device concept. Mike was not a deliverable weapon. The island where the device was detonated was vaporized. The hole Mike left was big enough to accommodate 14 Pentagon-size buildings...

Operation CASTLE was a six-detonation test series held at the Atomic Energy Commission's (AEC) Pacific Proving Ground in the Spring of 1954. This test series, principally conducted at the Enewetak and Bikini Atolls in the northwestern Marshall Islands, provided proof tests of large-yield thermonuclear, or hydrogen, devices. CASTLE represented the end of a drive for a workable thermonuclear weapon and the beginning of the refinement of large-H-bombs into smaller and more efficient weapons. After...

An amazing short by an "orchestra" of vibraphone players. Some viewers have noted that this film seems to be a mirror image of how things are supposed to be. This is because original Soundie films were printed backwards so that they could appear correct when played in the Panoram machine (an early film jukebox).

Lauren-Glenn Davitian, the Executive Director of the Center for Media & Democracy, gives insight into the ramifications of the 1996 Telecom Act. If you have a scanner and fax modem, you can combine them to create a fax machine. Just put a document on your scanner's glass, fill in the recipient's telephone number and press a button. This supports scanners with an automatic document feeder and also contains a printer driver that lets you print to this application from any Windows program that supports printing. It can also receive incoming faxes and forward faxes by e-mail.
