The Army was the original source of the V-Disc records, with their first  being issued in October of 1943. The Army’s V-Disc project provided a monthly 'care' package of music specially recorded for troops overseas. Soldiers fighting a far-flung war welcomed these musical snapshots of life back home. The V-Disc project actually began in June 1941 , six months before the United States' involvement in World War II, when Captain Howard Bronson was assigned to the Army's Recreation and Welfare...

Lt. Ruth G. Haskell's 1944 memoir of WWII service in North Africa with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Preface "Usually when one thinks of the Army in times such as these, a picture comes to mind of a stalwart group of fighting soldiers striding off to war. "THIS IS the story of an extraordinary character. Incidentally, he was one of the great heroes of the Southwest Pacific in World War II, a mechanical genius, and one of the finest storytellers I have ever known. His deeds were real. His stories were often fantasies but they and the recital of his actual accomplishments will be told and retold as long as any of his comrades-in-arms are still alive and then will be handed down to succeeding generations of airmen. The NBC program WORDS AT WAR is one of my very very favorite old time radio shows. I don't have all episodes available (disabled & can't afford to buy OTR), but here are the episodes that I do have. Enjoy. :D Correct episode names are from the helpful Digital Deli OTR site: http://www.digitaldeliftp.com/DigitalDeliToo/dd2jb-Words-At-War.html Additional research is my own, though I ran out of steam. :) About the Episodes *****EPISODE 01: 1943-06-24 NBC Words At War 01 Combined Operations The...

News from 1945. I usually share these via torrent but I don't think all these files are available on archive.org so here's a 1945 news file dump. Plus some V-Discs. Any typo or error is mine. ...if you like my uploads / Demonoid torrents please consider donating to a veteran's charity of your choice, thank you. Especially if you intend to make $ or otherwise profit from these files. :D

The Jubilee! radio show was broadcast on the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) and featured "Negro" performers. The dates on these files, show numbers, as well as some performer's names, came from the Jubilee! transcription pages by Carl Hallstrom & Bo Scherman: http://home.swipnet.se/dooji/jubilee.htm The Radio Gold Index http://www.radiogoldindex.com DB was helpful too. Any typo or error is mine. :D

"This sound recording is of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 'Quarantine' speech at Chicago, Illinois. During the speech, Roosevelt said '... the will for peace on the part of peace-loving nations must express itself to the end that nations that may be tempted to violate their agreements and the rights of others will desist from such a course.'"
