Earlier this year, after a four year wait, Jef finally turned over some images. The track list, originally 10 songs, was expanded to include a few songs held back for a second release. OK, I have to admit this this is a strange collection. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, I worked for Kmart behind the service desk and the store played specific pre-recorded cassettes issued by corporate. Until around 1992, the cassettes were rotated monthly. Then, they were replaced weekly. Finally...

In hopes of keeping kids' attention, social engineering films would often use supernatural elements to make their points. In this film, we see a magic talking mirror that reflects bratty kids as clowns. Most of the misbehaving kids understand how their behavior is disruptive and make amends. Surprisingly, one kid doesnt care if he is a "clown" and continues being a jerk probably for the rest of his life. To license this film and get a higher quality version for broadcast/film...

ARCHIVAL RELEASE. For recent recordings, check out these other My Mean Magpie Releases . About Toys for Elliot: The Toys for Elliot cassette was the very first release issued on My Mean Magpie (then called My Mean Mustard) with six songs in May of 1995. Consisting of Kymberly Drake and Five Seventeen, Kym was an accomplished self-taught pianist and Five was still figuring his way around a fretboard. From 1994-1995, they would get together whenever they could and try to come up with a few songs....

This is a digitized version of an in-store cassette tape that was played within a Kmart store. See the title of the file for the month and year. I worked at Kmart between 1989 and 1999 and held onto them with the hopes that they would be of use some day. Enjoy!

In 1950 Paul began hosting a 15-minute radio program, titled The Les Paul Show, for NBC Radio. The program featured his trio, which included Ford and rhythm player Eddie Stapleton. Playful interaction between Paul and Ford was interspersed in the performances, which included such tunes as "In the Mood" and "Tiger Rag". The show was later adapted for NBC TV as Les Paul and Mary Ford at Home, airing in 5-minute intervals as a fill-in segment between regular programming.

Made for Sears appliance salesmen, this film tries to capitalize on the zany format of TV's Laugh-In to introduce the new Kenmore freezer campaign. Even though the film features two of the stars from Laugh-In - Arte Johnson and Judy Carne.- it is clear that the director of this ephemeral gem missed the point. Along with Larry Yust's 'Lottery', 'Clown' was possibly one of the two best selling ed films ever made. On the surface, it's a cute kid & dog story. Underlying is a possible subtext that fascinates us every time we view the film, and makes for a satisfying, yet ultimately ambiguous ending. Gilou Pelletier is outstanding as the small boy, and the camera work by Guy Suzuki takes wonderful advantage of the terraces of Montmartre.

From Splendid Magazine: "Indie-pop is often best at its most eclectic. Saturday We're Even goes from excellent video game score to offbeat Broadway soundtrack, to loose country groove, to campfire song, to sludge, to loose, jovial pop-rock. The unifying element in this hodge-podge of stylistic pastiche and homage is a gleeful willingness to be a little strange, a little geeky and a lot smart."
