A wonderful book with 5 timeless French fairy tales magnificently illustrated with 8 beautiful and dramatic full page color and many black and white drawings by Virginia Frances Sterrett. "Done when she was only 19 years of age, this was Sterrett's (Chicago born) first book, and she is often referred to as the 'female Kay Nielsen'."

This book, published in 1886 and illustrated by Randolph Caldecott, chronicles the American writer Washington Irving's nostalgic recollections of Christmas traditions in 19th century England. The text first appeared in 1819 in Irving's Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. , which also contained such classics as "Rip van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." You can listen to an audio version of this book courtesy of LibriVox.

In 1893 a poster advertising the April issue of Harper's Monthly Magazine appeared in newsstands and bookshops throughout the United States. The subject matter was unlike that of French posters of the period; this poster was modest and the style restrained. It was unlike other American posters because the product advertised was not so much commercial as it was intellectual. Despite this quiet beginning, the Harper's poster started a revolution in the history of American poster-making. The book...
