Travelogues set landscapes in motion, and Freedom Highway exploits the roadside panorama as an excuse to celebrate American mythologies. Hanging in the sky as if they were ghosts, patriots, warriors and the myths they exemplify -- the frontier, national independence and manifest destiny -- come to life at key points along the transcontinental route. Although Americans are widely considered to be a practical, well-grounded people with their eyes on the future, Freedom Highway shows a nation in...

Heckle and Jeckle see a seemingly helpless baby bird (who keeps saying he is "only three years old") in danger as a cat is trying to capture it. The magpies play their usual tricks on the cat to keep him from getting the baby bird. When the cat starts shooting at the birds, the baby bird gets angry, marches straight towards the cat and gives him a sound thrashing, much to the amazement of Heckle and Jeckle.

Terrytoons was an animation studio founded by Paul Terry. The studio, located in suburban New Rochelle, New York, operated from 1929 to 1968. The studio created many popular cartoon characters including Heckle and Jeckle, Mighty Mouse, Gandy Goose, Sourpuss, Dinky Duck and Luno. The "New Terrytoons" period of the late 1950s and 60s brought us Sidney, Hector Heathcote, Hashimoto and Deputy Dawg as well as The Mighty Heroes. The cat has just eaten the canary. The bird cage is empty, so the cat hangs out a sign reading "Song Birds Wanted." Heckle and Jeckle want the job. They answer the cat's ad, but the cat has more on his mind than music! They play the piano and sing (and one does a great Jimmy Durante impersonation including the schnozzola!). They get the job, but they also get wise to the cat. The cat ends up in the cage with the boys singing!

Re-enactment of the famous May 31, 1889 Johnstown, Pennsylvania flood where the dam broke and flooded out an entire town! In this version, the town is occupied by mice and dogs. But Mighty Mouse comes to the rescue after drinking a bottle of "Atomic Energy." He reverses the flood waters and puts everything back where it was. And in this cartoon, he uses magic lightning bolts coming off his hands like Merlin the Magician!

A filmed mid-1950s country music show. Includes a variety of styles of country music, plus a poorly-filmed square dancing segment. My regular DVD ripper wouldn't rip the disc properly, so I had to use a different ripper, hence the high amount of compression (which I cannot fix).

An episode of a syndicated bowling show from the mid-1950s. Not sure of the exact date of this episode (notice says 1955, but this is impossible given references to a TV show which debuted 1956). Some interesting camera angles in the show. Doesn't appear to have had its copyright renewed or it wasn't registered, so I presume it is OK to upload here. No ads intact.

This English dub of Belvision's The Calculus Case from 1964 was exclusively released on VHS in the late 1980's from Virgin Video. This rip was originally uploaded back in November 2016, but has been deleted a while ago and hasn't resurfaced (until now).  I was thankfully able to download it before it was deleted, so here it is! Rip from Michael Kimpton. I own nothing. No copyright intended.

The four-minute compilation from 1938 exists only because of a technological fluke and the enthusiasm of two television buffs, one in Britain and the other in America where, thanks to freak atmospheric conditions, it was picked up and recorded on a cine camera placed in front of a television screen as the images came in. Andrew Emmerson, the British enthusiast, spent five years tracking down the recording and believes it is the only surviving example of pre-war live high-definition British...

Head Mouseketeer Jimmie Dodd promotes the Mousegetar (as seen on the show) and a cheaper jack-in-the-box style crank-toy, the Mousegetar Jr., in this 1955 commercial. Can't say for certain, but this probably debuted during episode #30 of "the Mickey Mouse Club" (November 11, 1955) after Dodd was presented with his Mousegetar by the Mouseketeers. The Mousegetar retailed for $4 and the Mousegetar Jr. for $1.80, but today they sell in the triple-digits.

An ultra-rare Russian-language documentary about the most notorious of the Gulag death camps in frigid north-eastern Siberia. If sent to Kolyma, you had about a 10% chance of survival, death coming quickly from exposure, illness, disease, overwork, or inmate gangs.  The common expression in Russia was, "Kolyma means death!" Anything (or nothing) you did, had done, or might do would be enough to get you sent there. To quote Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn - author of The Gulag Archipelago - on...

Screen Songs  are animated cartoons featuring the famous “ bouncing ball ” produced by Max  Fleischer  and distributed by  Paramount Pictures  between 1929 and 1938. The cartoons are sing-alongs featuring popular song hits of the day along with the ethnic stereotypes and humor typical of the era in which they were produced. In the 1930s, the series began to feature current popular musical guest stars such as Cab Calloway, Rudy Vallee and Ethel Merman. In the 1950s, the series was...

Plot : The classic story of Robinson Crusoe, a man who is dragged to a desert island after a shipwreck .--IMDb IMDb User Review : Very well done but amazingly normal! ( Sep 20, 2009 by MartinHafer ): I am sure that fans of director Luis Buñuel probably have very mixed feelings about this film. On the one hand, it's an exceptionally well made film from start to finish, but on the other, it's way too "normal" for the usually anarchic and often surreal director. In other words, the fact...

Jim Henson was one of the great originals in the world of television; he took simple ideas, and made them into whole worlds – Sesame Street and The Muppets are just two of the programmes that were given shape from his work and thought. Among those offering tribute to Henson are Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, puppeteer Frank Oz, broadcaster Ted Koppel, musician Harry Belafonte, director Francis Ford Coppola, and children’s illustrator Maurice Sendak.

This video contains the opening and closing to the initial VHS release of Disney's "In Search Of The Castaways", an adaptation of Jules Verne's novel starring Hayley Mills, Maurice Chevalier, George Sanders, and Wilfrid Hyde-White. And yes, you read that title right. This is not the early-1990's VHS. This is the first-ever home video release of this movie. I believe this is from 1983, not 1984 like Disney Wiki said. I think that was a typo. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If you want...
