Pulp magazines (often referred to as "the pulps"), also collectively known as pulp fiction, refers to inexpensive fiction magazines published from 1896 through the 1950s. The typical pulp magazine was seven inches wide by ten inches high, half an inch thick, and 128 pages long. Pulps were printed on cheap paper with ragged, untrimmed edges. The name pulp comes from the cheap wood pulp paper on which the magazines were printed. Magazines printed on better paper were called...

To many, The Strand is synonymous with Sherlock Holmes.   Founded in 1891 and edited by George Newnes, The Strand was a general-interest magazine, offering fiction, humor, current events, political satire, celebrity biographies and more.   Sherlock Holmes made his first appearance in The Strand in 1891, and much of Doyle’s other fiction also appears in these volumes, along with fiction by many of the world’s best-known authors, such as Mark Twain, Jules Verne, Bret Harte, etc.   The...

Librivox recording of Edgar Allan Poe i udvalg by Edgar Allan Poe. Translated by Robet Watt Read in Danish by Kristoffer Hunsdahl. A Classic Fifties commercial for a General Electric Dish Washer from circa 1952. It's amazing that General Electric is still going after all these years. Plus, this is a very good 1950's commercial, showing some of the methods of advertising used at the time. I can only hope that General Electric themsleves don't mind me uploading this vintage commercial.
