This film was found in the basement of a vacating business in Rochester, New York in 2004. The decomposition of the emulsion, combined with the vivid color and movements of the carnival rides, creates a beautiful film reminiscent of the work of filmmakers Peter Delpeut and Bill Morrison. Also available on the DVD "Living Room Cinema: Films From Home Movie Day, Vol. I"

On this day, a pigeon decided to come visit. I was playing in my backyard. The pigeon first landed on the patio roof, then it saw me. I called it to me, holding out my arms. It flew to me and sat on my arms, much to my delight. It visited for about 20 minutes or so, then flew away. My mom saw me with the bird & took this picture. Don't know where it came from - never had a pigeon visit - and it was the only one I ever saw in my neighborhood. A fun day! My latest blog filled with lots of...

The central hot star, O Herschel 36 (lower right), is the primary source of the ionizing radiation for the brightest region in the nebula, called the Hourglass. An iron meteorite is the latest quarry for NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity. The rover's cameras revealed the meteorite on its trek to its long-term destination, Endeavour crater, in images taken on Sol 2363 (Sept. 16, 2010), the 2,363rd Martian day of the rover's mission on Mars. This view was taken with the navigation camera on Sol 2368 (Sept. 21, 2010), after a drive the preceding sol to get close to the rock. The meteorite is about half a meter (20 inches) long. The scene appears...

The jet is seen in visible light, and its dusty disk and stars are seen in infrared light. These stars are located near a huge torus, or donut, of gas and dust from which they formed. This torus is tilted edge-on and can be seen as a dark bar near the bottom of the picture. Apparently, a...
