The Killing Of Satan is a 1983 movie from the Philippines. This is a strongly Catholic film, so much so that the opening scene involves penitents toting crosses while scourging themselves, then encountering Satan, who proceeds to give their leader the old Spinning Head treatment. Whew! At the same time, this is a somewhat sleazy exploitation film, with plenty of unclad Filipinas awaiting their rescue from the forces of Evil. This is in color and in English.

Bull Meechum (Robert Duvall) is one of nature’s hard cases, an ace marine fighter pilot so adept at his lethal trade that they call him THE GREAT SANTINI. But now it’s peacetime 1962. This is believed to be the first feature film based on real life serial killers Charles Starkweather and Caril Fugate. Mainstream Hollywood would not produce films inspired by the pair until a decade after this one. A number of films were inspired by the duo (some very loosely) and included such major examples as Terrence Malick's Badlands (1973) and Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers (1994)

Set in post-World War II New York City, the show closely followed the format of early Ellery Queen mystery novels where, before presenting the solution, a "Challenge To The Reader" was issued: the reader was challenged to guess the solution to the crime. In the series this tradition was followed by having Ellery Queen (Jim Hutton) "break the fourth wall," reviewing key clues and asking the audience if they knew the solution. The final act always used the time-honored...

The lurid title could easily side-track you from what is essentially an extremely frightening exploration of a woman's descent into madness. You can read it, of course, in a material sense as the title suggests; but everything in this film has the potential to signify something else entirely, and its this ambiguity that makes this film so macarbe and interesting.
