Longtime friends from the Chrestomanci novels rub elbows with new characters in four magical Chrestomanci stories. A car-thief warlock matches wits with a little girl and a Demon Dog. "The romances of the Middle Ages were written in times of social upheaval. In all three genres, the storytellers draw on the same archetypes--the hero, the quest, the transformation. This book explores the connections between the three genres. Analysis reveals similarities in images, structures, and the pervasive belief that a perfectible universe is within man's capabilities"--Provided by publisher

Written in chilling detail, this novel describes the effect of World War I on a small community in Provence. In some of the most fiercely realistic and horrifying scenes of war ever recreated in literature, this story evokes the harsh, primitive conditions in the trenches as well as the loneliness and anxiety experienced by those left at home. The gradual disintegration of normal life and morals in areas far from the fighting grimly parallels the wholesale destruction of men, land, and...

This is the first issue of P.S. magazine, a title published by Mercury Press and edited by Edward L. Ferman that only ran for three issues in 1966. It was a companion magazine to the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction which featured non-fiction articles by many of F&SF's writers. Don't quite know what genre I'd classify this magazine as. Suffice to say it's part introspection (looking at the past to trace its influence on then modern times) but it's also meant to be contemplative...
