Whether They’re from Mars or Planet X those dastardly aliens are out to get us. The proof is in this simulated double feature program at an inner-city second-run theater. The future shock begins with coming attractions and a cartoon. Then evil aliens in satin Cossack shirts let loose a mini-plague of zombies in “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” Followed by an invisible alien in a visible diving helmet raising hell in Southern California in “Phantom From Space”. We need a border wall in...

Welcome to the fourth insomniac double feature dedicated to ladies of the leaf litter. Any similarity to actual persons living or dead is a shame. The back lot, stock footage and Bronson Canyon adventures begin with a coming attraction and a cartoon. Then Irish McCalla starrs in the low-budget jaw-dropper “She Demons.” The intermission short is chapter 2 of “Panther Girl of the Congo” with Phyllis Coates. Then a hand mirror lures cutie-pie Rochelle Hudson onto captivity in “The Savage...

The 2am Theater crawls out from under its rock to bring you another sure-fire insomnia cure. This cinematic version of Ambien opens with coming attractions, followed by bad actors fighting a lobster silhouette in "Teenagers from Outer Space." The intermission featurette, "Going Steady?" induces your libido into a deep coma. Then if the rest of you is still awake, really bad actors and a guy in a gorilla suit put teenage girls into a glass booth, in "Teenage...

The 2am Theater strikes again with another insomniac double feature. Our adventures in wacky science begin with coming attractions and a cartoon. Then spark generators drive Bela Lugosi batty in "The Devil Bat." The intermission featurette, "Science in Action," teaches us how to boil water and stuff. Then in "The Mad Monster" George Zucco's basement DIY project is a homemade werewolf because Ikea bookshelves had pushed him over the edge. (Feel free to try all of...

This is a simulation of a double feature program at a second-run movie house in the 1940s. The sleuthing begins with coming attractions and a cartoon, followed by the first feature, Sherlock Holmes in "Terror by Night." The 2am Theater shamefully presents another insomniac double feature. This time it's all about the ladies (and some guys in gorilla suits). The sweaty safari begins with coming attractions and a cartoon, followed by the first feature, "Nabonga," with Julie London. This simulated wartime double feature program at an American movie theater in the early ‘40s is a tribute, typical of the time, to our gallant British Allies. The road to ultimate victory begins with coming attractions, a Movietone newsreel and a cartoon. The feature presentations are two critically acclaimed dramas of the Royal Navy’s war at sea, “In Which We Serve” and “We Dive at Dawn.” The intermission short subject is the USAAF recruiting film “Winning Your Wings.”

Saturday matinees (kiddie matinees) were a summertime institution in thousands of US movie theaters. They lasted into the late ‘50s when they were finally killed off by Saturday morning children’s TV programming. These three-hour extravaganzas for the cap pistol set consisted of a jumble of multiple cartoons (that often were racially insensitive), serial chapters and one or more feature films that always were B-westerns. Parents and girls (eeu!) weren’t banned, but I don’t remember...

NOTE: DESCRIPTION CORRECTED. This is about a crime fighting newspaperman. Brad McKay, played by Lee Tracy, whom I have never heard of, works with the police to solve a case involving $100k and some murders. He is wisecracking and thinks his way, rapidly, out of the surprises. Visit: VintageNewscast.com

Stars Anna Sten and Alan Marshal, with Jerome Cowan and Harry Davenport in support. One of the final appearances...

The Universal Film Manufacturing Company was not known in the silent era as premier producer of motion pictures. Yet, in 1916 they produced a film that could not be made effectively without expensive special effects and special photography. The novel had previously been made as short films in 1907 by Georges Méliès and in 1913 by French company ÃÂclair.) Marshalling the expertise underwater experts Ernest and George Williamson, Universal financed the extensive production which would...

"Way to the neighbor" is a ten-minute opus that Lutz Mommartz commented as follows: "A women communicates with the audience." More, in fact, does not happen. The devoted rapture in the face of the actor lets the viewer imagine that this is not a compulsory exercise, but a pleasurable freestyle happening. Lutz Mommartz is the purist among German filmmakers. His scenes focus on the basic...
