In keeping with the season in the US (and maybe in the UK) the 2am Theater presents two lively political comedies -- one from each side of the Atlantic. First up are previews of coming attractions followed by a cartoon. Then a Scottish bi-election literally goes to the dogs in “Storm in a Teacup,” costarring Rex Harrison and Vivien Leigh. Next in “The Dark Horse,” desperate for a suitable candidate a deadlocked party convention  nominates a political novice who later turns out to be...

Whether They’re from Mars or Planet X those dastardly aliens are out to get us. The proof is in this simulated double feature program at an inner-city second-run theater. The future shock begins with coming attractions and a cartoon. Then evil aliens in satin Cossack shirts let loose a mini-plague of zombies in “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” Followed by an invisible alien in a visible diving helmet raising hell in Southern California in “Phantom From Space”. We need a border wall in...

Welcome to the fourth insomniac double feature dedicated to ladies of the leaf litter. Any similarity to actual persons living or dead is a shame. The back lot, stock footage and Bronson Canyon adventures begin with a coming attraction and a cartoon. Then Irish McCalla starrs in the low-budget jaw-dropper “She Demons.” The intermission short is chapter 2 of “Panther Girl of the Congo” with Phyllis Coates. Then a hand mirror lures cutie-pie Rochelle Hudson onto captivity in “The Savage...

The 2am Theater crawls out from under its rock to bring you another sure-fire insomnia cure. This cinematic version of Ambien opens with coming attractions, followed by bad actors fighting a lobster silhouette in "Teenagers from Outer Space." The intermission featurette, "Going Steady?" induces your libido into a deep coma. Then if the rest of you is still awake, really bad actors and a guy in a gorilla suit put teenage girls into a glass booth, in "Teenage...

The 2am Theater strikes again with another insomniac double feature. Our adventures in wacky science begin with coming attractions and a cartoon. Then spark generators drive Bela Lugosi batty in "The Devil Bat." The intermission featurette, "Science in Action," teaches us how to boil water and stuff. Then in "The Mad Monster" George Zucco's basement DIY project is a homemade werewolf because Ikea bookshelves had pushed him over the edge. (Feel free to try all of...

This is a simulation of a double feature program at a second-run movie house in the 1940s. The sleuthing begins with coming attractions and a cartoon, followed by the first feature, Sherlock Holmes in "Terror by Night." The intermission featurette is a true crime short, "Night Intruder," followed by the second feature, Charlie Chan in "Dark Alibi." (There are a few seats left in the balcony.) The 2am Theater shamefully presents another insomniac double feature. This time it's all about the ladies (and some guys in gorilla suits). The sweaty safari begins with coming attractions and a cartoon, followed by the first feature, "Nabonga," with Julie London. The intermission featurette is chapter 2 of the serial "Perils of the Darkest Jungle" (a.k.a. "The Tiger Woman") with Linda Sterling. The second feature presentation is "Blonde Savage" with Gale...

This simulated wartime double feature program at an American movie theater in the early ‘40s is a tribute, typical of the time, to our gallant British Allies. The road to ultimate victory begins with coming attractions, a Movietone newsreel and a cartoon. The feature presentations are two critically acclaimed dramas of the Royal Navy’s war at sea, “In Which We Serve” and “We Dive at Dawn.” The intermission short subject is the USAAF recruiting film “Winning Your Wings.”

Those pesky undocumemted space aliens are again raising hell. This time it’s in Europe and the U.K. in this simulated second-run house double feature program. The mayhem begins with coming attractions and a cartoon followed by the killer plants from outer space in John Wyndham’s “The Day of the Triffids.” Next interstella migrants turn nice British scientists into nasties in “They Came from Beyond Space.” They're like from nowhere, man! ADULT CONTENT ADVISORY: This grindhouse double feature simulation contains nudity and other content some viewers might find objectionable. The 2am theater sneakly returns to inflict another insomniac double feature on unsuspecting Internet Archive users. This festival of bad acting in sound stage and stock footage jungles begins with the trailer for "Tarzan Escapes" (which doesn't belong here being a good movie and one of the best of MGM's Trazan series) followed by a newsreel. Then Wanda McKay tries to remember her lines in "Jungle Goddess." Unfortunately Amira Moustafa does remember her lines in "Queen...

Saturday matinees (kiddie matinees) were a summertime institution in thousands of US movie theaters. They lasted into the late ‘50s when they were finally killed off by Saturday morning children’s TV programming. These three-hour extravaganzas for the cap pistol set consisted of a jumble of multiple cartoons (that often were racially insensitive), serial chapters and one or more feature films that always were B-westerns. Parents and girls (eeu!) weren’t banned, but I don’t remember...

The 2am Theater takes us back to those wonderful days of yesteryear when folks were digging bomb shelters in their back yards, "duck & cover" was all the rage and Joe McCarthy and friends were screaming the reds are taking over the US from within. This second simulated wartime double feature program at an American movie theater is about World War 2 on the Canadian and British home fronts.   The action begins with coming attractions, a newsreel clip and a cartoon. The first feature presentation is the Powell and Pressburger masterpiece “49th Parallel” which traces the flight of violent Nazi fugitives across the Canada. The intermission featurette is the Disney animated short “Education for Death” (see note). Then it’s British...

The 2am Theater presents two horror cult classics in a simulated midnight double feature at an inner-city second-run theater. First up are the customary horrific previews. Then Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and a defrosted monster are on a train ride from Hell in the “Horror Express.” Next in “City of the Dead” virgins check in but they don’t check out of the Ravens Inn. NOTE: Both features are presented in their fully restored, widescreen versions. “City of the Dead” is also...

Mexico and Southern California are the playgrounds for this 2am Theater’s menagerie of monstrous nightmares. Tonight’s drive-in scream fest opens with previews of shrieks to come. Then in “The Black Scorpion” Richard Denning and Mara Corday can’t prevent gigantic arachnids from attacking Mexico City. Next in “The Monster That Challenged the World” it’s the mollusks’ turn when gruesome giant slugs eat delicious beach babes and everyone else in the Salton Sea. (bon appetit!)

Those insidious undocumented space aliens are back again to steal our high-paying hotel maid and cabbage-picker jobs! The night of alien terror begins with previews of coming invasions. Then in “Devil Girl From Mars” a dominatrix and her packing crate robot are on the hunt for helpless Earth men who are good breeding stock. Next up is “It Conquered the World,” Roger Corman’s ripoff of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” to which Roger added a Venusian monster the film crew named...

Those crazy kids are back. The 2am Theater management asserts no video editors were harmed in gluing together this double feature presentation. The post-pubescent adventures begin with previews of coming attractions, followed by the first feature presentation in which teens are on the menu for "The Giant Gila Monster." Then young Republicans have a wild night in the short subject, "What Makes a Good Party?" The second feature presentation is "The Beach Girls and the...

This is a simulated double feature program at a inner-city second-run movie house in the '60s. Rocket into the future with previews of coming attractions followed by a cartoon. Then in "The Phantom Planet" an astronaut lands on a mysterious asteroid populated by six-inch tall people - the cute ones in miniskirts. In the second feature presentation only Victor Jory can save Earth from being invaded by the slinky babes in black body stockings from "Cat-Women of the Moon."...

Peer into the future as the 2am Theater presents two science fiction adventures. But first there are previews of the world of tomorrow. Then in “The Time Travelers” scientists climb through a window in their cheesy lab, and poof! They’re 100 years into the future! Who knew it could be that easy? Next the post-apocalypse is filled with monsters and other horrors in “Day the World Ended,” the low-budget remake of the low-budget “In the Year 2889.” According to these reports the...
