From IMDB : France, 18th century. Lieutenant Andre Duvalier (Jack Nicholson) has been accidentally separated from his regiment. He is wandering near the coast when he sees a young woman (Sandra Knight) and asks her for directions to Coldon, where he hopes to rejoin his regiment. But the woman doesn't answer, doesn't even greet him and walks away. Eventually she takes him towards the sea, where she disappears in rough water. Andre loses consciousness while trying to follow her, and is attacked...

Seymour Krelboin is a hapless sap working in a skid row flower shop. He loves coworker Audrey Fulquard, but is close to losing his job. Luckily, he discovers a new plant, and brings the sickly specimen to work, which impresses both Audrey and his boss, Gravis Mushnick. Mushnick makes Seymour's job contingent on the survival of the plant. While Seymour works on this, he discovers the plant responds to blood. Oh, and it talks! It tells him it needs more blood to thrive, and Seymour sets about the...

One is Business,; The Other is Crime. was directed by D W Griffith in 1912. In it we follow two couples, one rich, one poor and here Griffith draws a distinction between white collar crime and the more obvious street crime.Blanche Sweet stars.

Fighting Blood was directed by D W Griffith in 1911. It is one of his Buograph shorts, a rip roaring cowboy and Indian tale with lots of horses and gun play so I added plenty of exciting music and sound effects. Hope you can live with it. Enjoy.

This is a fragment of a film that D W Griffith made in 1909. I wish I had the full video. I would love to finish adding music to it. In this one, though there is no indication of Christmas I have taken a cue from Santa and chosen Christmas music from the era. The title card says "A Trap for Santa" but advertising called it "A Trap For Santa Claus" Here is how IMDB describes the full plot "The children set a trap for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, knowing he has to come...

A Beast at Bay was directed by D W Griffith in 1912. It stars Mary Pickford as the girl. These pictures were made so quickly, averaging two a week, that there are always errors that are allowed to pass. For example the tramp who tries to start a fight is almost off camera. But there are also regular advances in film technique. The cutting between the train and the cars, or the point of view shot when the hero looks through the binoculars.

Lonely Villa was directed by D W Griffith in 1909. If you look it up on Wikipedia or IMDB it is listed as "The Lonely Villa" but the name on the title card is as presented here. An interesting drama with a simple plot. Watch the tramp who first visits the house with the letter. You can almost hear him taking vocal directions from Griffith.

The Sunbeam was directed by D W Griffith in 1912. When a film called The Sunbeam refers to a little girl with a dead mother, you know you are in for a bit of sentimentality and so you are. But given that, it is a neat little film with an interesting picture of life in a tenement house and the social mores of the day.

The Oath and the Man was directed by D W Griffith in 1910. Griffith is often out of his depth when he goes far back in history. Herein he trivializes the French revolution. Before you criticize him, though, remember he was making two or three of these a week. If you get a few laughs, you will be laughing at it not with it

The Burglar's Dilemma was directed by D.W. Griffith in 1912. It is a tale of two brothers, Lionel Barrymore and Henry B. Wathall who get involved with a burglar. It is a nice little drama. Watch how the detectives pantomime the police "Mutt and Jeff routine" with the burglar.

The Adventures of Dollie was made by D W Griffith in 1908. Hr went to the Biograph studios as an aspiring actor and was asked to direct a film. He did so on the condition he not lost his acting job. This was the first picture he directed and he never turned back.

Ramona was directed by D W Griffith in 1910. It is the story of a Mexican girl (played by Mary Pickford) and an Indian boy in an ill-fated love affair. It demonstrates Griffith's sympathy for the Indian in a time when such sentiments were not so widespread.

The New York Hat was directed by D W Griffith for the Biograph Studio in 1912. It has many of Griffith's stock players in it. You may spot Mae Marsh as a gossip or Lillian Gish as a customer in the store but the main roles are played by Lionel Barrymore as the pastor and Mary Pickford as he girl. The script was written by Anita Loos. It is a gentle story with a clear moral, but I thought the real star had to be the hat.

Swords and Hearts, D W Griffith 1911. Griffith returns to the Civil war, this time with a story of a Southern officer, who when he returns from the war, finds his fiance attached to a Northern officer, but all is well, the poor but honest girl who saved him from death still loves him. It is not bad and worth a look. I have added music and some sounds. While these Biograph shorts may seem simplistic to us today, pause to consider how exciting they must have been to audience who may never have...
